I AM CHOSEN“Shifters are Chronon active individuals that exist in a state of quantum superposition. They exist as all possible past, present, and future versions of themselves, existing both everywhere and nowhere. Shifters are capable of appearing anywhere they wish. Shifters are extremely resistant to damage. They are also quite physically formidable, but their biggest threat is the distortion field around them.
It warps the properties of the space surrounding them, exerting great physical stress and unpredictable forces on its surroundings. Close proximity to a Shifter may be fatal even if no actual physical contact takes place. They are essentially mobile repositories of vast amounts of Chronon particles, and they can only exist in a zero state area which has been depleted of Chronon particles, typically by a fault in the Meyer-Joyce field that encompasses the universe. Most Shifters are theorized to inhabit the End of Time.”

Paul Serene is a busy man. Jack Joyce has needs.
Taking a break from the shower of angst to write some self-indulgent fluff. AU where the time egg never gets fucked. Paul goes to business school and launches himself into the economic stratosphere, Jack stays firmly on the ground. Tumblr started talking wedding headcanons, and, just think about the logistics of marrying Paul "Fortune 500" Serene.
But, mostly. Sex.

Paul the father, Paul the husband, Paul who died young and Paul who lived too long, Paul the addict, the soldier, the vagrant, the monster, the savior, the traitor, the betrayed. There were women and men - beautiful, plain, adoring, mean - but sometimes - most of the time - no one. And then, sometimes, there was Jack. Fighting, loving, falling out, fucking - the whole panoply of potential in a human existence.

Summary
Beth isn’t sure what to expect when her first trip through the time machine lands her in the future rather than the past. One thing’s for sure, though, and it’s that she wasn’t expecting how she feels about the Paul Serene she finds there.
Inspired somewhat by the scenes set in the End of Time in Quantum Break: Zero State. You know, the one with Paul and Beth and the pancakes? Yeah, I wanted to write my own take on what their interactions at the End might be like. Sans pancakes, unfortunately, but you can't have everything, and this was getting pretty long as it was.
Title blatantly stolen from "I Know The End" by Phoebe Bridgers. It's a great song, I highly recommend listening to it if you want to feel Shrimp Emotions.
