Summary
Neither of them can answer. The answer is too revealing. It exposes secrets about themselves that they don't want to approach. It forces them to look inward, beneath the shell of their rib cages and into the hollow of their souls, and see their own vulnerabilities.
If they probe, if they reach deeper, they might find that Akira stays for the same reason Shiki forces him to live. Answering is detrimental to the status quo between them—a precarious balance already. For the first time, they're in equal positions. It's better for them both to leave such thoughts in the dark.

Neku goes through his life resurrected, seeing Shiki and Eri the most throughout his day and Beat and Ryhmn less. Neku realises he's the only one who remembers the game and can see the UG, even seeing a player get erased for not finding a partner fast. Neku tests this theory by asking Shiki if she remembers how they met, and if either of them two remembers Joshua or the reapers. When he realises they don't, Neku gets pissed at Joshua. Despite all that and his pains of trusting people and the fear of what people can do with that, Neku won't deny that life is much than being alone forever.
Neku also realises he gained Shibuya's attention after the game ends, with his designs becoming more popular and people commissioning his art for tattoos and other stuff. He meets 2 partners and asks if either uses pins, handing his lightning pin to them, pissing Uzuki off. Neku mentions his dad is in Europe as a lecturer and isn't hopeful that much. He wonders if he even knew he died for 3 weeks, but with his memorial being empty, he doesn't think so.
Deciding to test out his theories, Neku goes to Death God's Pad, where he exerts the powers he feels and gets through the barrier. Then takes a nap. Hanekoma and Joshua come back from meeting the Upper Planes and are surprised at seeing neku, with Joshua stating he didn't feel him come in. "He's your pick, boss. Can't say I'm all that surprised." Neku teases with him by commenting on his glowing and asks him to pull a rabbit out of his hat, Joshua says he could, but Neku cuts him off. "I was there, remember? Twice. I suppose you could buy me a puppy this time, and shoot that."
Neku's phone rings, and Joshua takes it and answers it, revealing it was his last commission boss apologising for treating him badly. Before Joshua can ask more, Neku lies in his lap. Neku asks about him, and Joshua tells Neku that Minnamoto got a promotion, angering Neku. "God, didn't you kill him already? You killed him already! Am I the only person you ever feel like murdering?" Joshua states that Neku took out the majority of his staff, except for him. Neku coldly states he doesn't regret it much. Joshua states he's a wall reaper for now, although he might go for a composer again. Neku says, "You sure work hard for your entertainment." Neku accuses Joshua of making everyone forget. Joshua asks if he wants them to remember him, but also states that no one can remember the composer.
To calm him down, Joshua asks how Neku is. Neku, remembering his last commission, states he's had a day. Joshua touches his head, Neku fearing he'll erase his memory, asks what he's doing. Joshua tells him to relax, as he's making it easier for Neku to come back.

It hasn’t been all that long since that night at Hachiko. Not enough time for Neku to fall into a new routine.
Joshua says things around Eri that would give away the whole Game if she ever believed him, and manages to wriggle out of paying every time they've gotten food together since the first night. He's got enough social tact Neku's sure he knows every rule he's breaking, which is pretty much constant. The only reason he hasn’t successfully picked a fight with Beat yet is that even Beat can tell he’s doing it on purpose. He’s smarmy, capricious as hell, and just as Joshua as ever.
Neku couldn’t be happier.

After the events of Like A Butterfly, Joshua's still getting used to this whole "having friends" thing. And this whole "admitting you have feelings" thing. Neku's still adjusting to having Joshua in his life again, along with his still-fairly-new relationship status with Shiki and Beat. Sanae, meanwhile, is making plans to resume his side career that could use a Composer's endorsement. And then Kongming gets back from Kyoto. Life's never dull for fans of Shibuya's rising musical star and her manager.Series
