So, he decided to investigate, if only to satisfy his curiosity. He could be a few minutes late to his meeting with Puffy, she'd understand. He dove down, spreading his wings out to pull forward right before his feet touched down on the sand. He enjoyed seconds more of the wind on his wings before tucking them behind his back and allowing his cloak to cover them.
The figure had his back turned to Phil as he walked forward and deeper into the water, though he did so slowly. He looked so much like Tommy from here, the only difference being the hair. That and how thin he was. Tommy was a bit lanky, sure, but he looked terribly thin to the point of starvation. How he was still standing was a mystery in it of itself.

Summary
Being the younger child, he had always known he wasn’t anywhere near as important as the crown prince, and that had, to some extent, been something he was grateful for, as much as it broke his heart to see the way they worked Technoblade to the bone. At least, when all was said and done, he wasn’t the one bearing the weight of their legacy on his shoulders, he wasn’t the one who would have to rule one day. There were advantages to being the youngest.
But here, apparently, was the f*cking massive downside. Being traded away like a pawn, given as a ‘guarantee’ in a peace treaty, as though he didn’t even matter. Tommy supposed that, deep down, he had always known he didn’t.
____________________Prince Tommy is traded away to King Philza as part of a peace treaty. He is certain he will be treated as a prisoner - a servant at best, a punching bag at worst. He just hopes Technoblade will find a way to forget all about him, the last thing he wants is for his older brother to feel guilty for being unable to keep him safe.

Tommy sighs, settling into the covers of his bed. Why did he have to wake up this early? The Crafts probably haven’t even started anything yet.
He just wants to sleep through it all, just so he doesn’t have to hear them have fun without him.
He can hear the different voices of his foster family talking amongst themselves. Tommy can’t make out any details, but one sentence stands out, repeated many times.
“Merry Christmas.”
Tommy sinks further into the mattress and tries to ignore the loneliness threatening to consume him.
For a foster kid like Tommy, Christmas is always a lonely time for him. He expects this year to be the same, but the Crafts have different plans

"Theseus. That's what you've always called me, right? Like I was some hero," Tommy spat out the words, and Techno was surprised at the hate that seemed to accompany them. "But I'm not a hero, I never wanted to be a fucking hero. I'm just a kid!"
Tommy stopped, panting from his outbursts, nails digging into his palms as he curled his hands into fists. "If I'm Theseus, then you are my Lycomedes. This-this right here, it's fitting right? You wear the crown, Techno. You are the king. And this is the end. This was how it was always meant to be."

“For someone who doesn’t talk, you sure are a menace,” Techno mused, tapping Tommy’s nose and making him scrunch up his eyes and nose. “A gremlin, a devil child.”
Tommy huffed, punching his shoulder good-naturally with a small pout, burying his face in Techno’s shoulder. Techno faltered for a moment, not sure what to do. Put the kid down? He wasn’t Tommy’s parent, was it weird to be holding the kid in such a familial manner?
After a few moments of back and forth in his mind, Techno caved and ran his hand through Tommy’s hair, swaying them slightly. Tommy hummed, leaning into the touch with a smile. Techno placed his chin on top of Tommy’s head, continuing to sway back and forth and closed his eyes.
The rest of the world seemed to disappear at that moment. He was aware of the sky darkening outside, the twinkle of the Christmas tree. Most of all he was aware of Tommy’s heartbeat, the warmth of his body in Techno’s arms, the strange calmness that came from holding this kid he met only two weeks ago.

Techno doesn't understand why he is here, neither does he know if this is a dream or not, which in its entirety, it probably is.
But the numbness of his fingertips feels so real, and he can hear the thumping of his heels too clearly.
He doesn't dream that often; when he does, he'd always be back in that recurring nightmare where his family abandons him just like they did the first time.
He isn't in that nightmare right now, else he'd see the faces of the family he had long before Phil and Tommy, and the walls would be blood-stained with rotting yellow wallpaper instead of pitch black.

Techno finds that it is as dark in his dreams as it is at home. Most days, he wonders if he could ever escape the darkness.

Tommy stared at the paper in front of him, the ink blurring into a mess as his eyes glazed over. The red marks on his essay looked like a crime scene. Mrs. Carter, his English teacher, had made it clear—if Tommy didn’t improve, he’d be repeating 8th grade. High school would be out of the question. Tommy couldn’t let that happen.
But the thing was, he wasn’t sure how to fix it. English was his worst subject by far. He could barely stay awake in class, and even when he did try, his brain seemed to refuse to cooperate. Books, essays, prompts—it all felt like some foreign language to him. He’d been bad at this for so long, it was hard to believe that even trying might make a difference.
The ticking clock was a reminder of his failure, each second reminding him that time was running out.
“Techno…” Tommy muttered to himself, slumping in his seat. He hated admitting that he needed help, especially not from someone like his older brother. But there was no way around it now. He needed a tutor, and Techno was his best shot. No one else would take him seriously enough to actually help.
