Summary
In these chapters Pony, working through his grief and trauma, feels he is ready to try new things and goes back to the track team. In order to juggle the load of school, a new job and track practice, Ponyboy takes study hall to complete school work. There he grows closer to Beth, the Soc girl from his English class. Both Beth and Ponyboy go separately to the same drag race and we see their own point of views of the same event: Gregg finds Ponyboy and starts a fight.
How does Ponyboy work through all of the events of the last year since his parents died, to after his friends die after Windrixville? Ponyboy shows symptoms of depression, PTSD, and deep grief. He finds a friend who he can really talk to and works through some of these issues, coming out stronger in the end. Darry is a hero in his own way. Deep dive into a Soc character. And Bob Sheldon's cousin wants to finish off Ponyboy in revenge for Bob's death.
This is my creation of how Ponyboy recovers from a long year of loss and grief and how a relationship with a Soc girl from his school starts him on his writing career.

I never thought happen to me, I mean, losing Johnny, not that he died or anything, we just fought. Not a play fight, not an argument, a real fight. With the person I'd grown up with, the person who I fought with in rumbles, it felt almost surreal. Despite seeing Johnny in tears, a thing I'd last seen when he got jumped, and even despite my own nose being likely broken.
