It's all a fucking joke; they preach acceptance and tolerance, but everyone knows it's all one big lie. Clay Jensen knows this better than any other student. It’s not that Justin felt no emotion over being adopted. In fact, he’s fairly sure he’s felt every emotion about being adopted.
Relief that he was finally being given a break and a chance to start over.
Scared that he would somehow mess it up, that the Jensens would want to look into overturning the adoption.
Disbelief that someone - let alone a whole family - could look at him and see something good. See a person worth opening their home to and calling him their own.
It’s just when the judge announces that he’s officially part of the Jensen family, the few people watching from the gallery clapping and the social worker beaming as the judge signs the paperwork, Justin can’t help but sit there and blink wildly, wondering if this was all a dream.

This fic is based off of a dream I had last night. Was very scary, 0/10 do not recommend, I am simply coping.

Something about dreams is--you don't have really coherent thoughts, or at least, you don't remember them when you wake up. Maybe everyone is different and this is totally untrue for other people, but for me, that is my experience. In real life, it's easy for me to ground myself and sort out my thoughts and feelings into understandable ideas. In my dreams, everything is mush, and I only have vague concepts of my emotions and thoughts.
In this dream, the main thing I can remember was being afraid and being embarrassed. I thought "I don't want to admit to this, but I'm so scared and my life might depend on it."
