Ivy rolled his eyes playfully but shook his head again. "No, it's for you, Zeph. You shouldn't want to waste one of those on me when you need them more."
"Well, at least share this one with me?" Zephyr pressed, offering the joint to the earth ghoul.

To successfully keep a summoned ghoul in the mortal realm, they must bond to a willing soul. This bond is terribly strong, only the soul may break it. Desperate to remain in contract, ghouls blindly follow and protect the soul they have bonded to. Should that soul perish before the immortality of the ghoul is transferred onto them, the ghoul would be cast back to Hell.
I realized I needed some time to truly come to terms with leaving my current life within the church to pursue a life on the edge of the shadows.
"You-you should not be here! We have not even called in to the Pits," Papa nearly shouted, his pristine makeup had begun to ruin in the unnatural heat of the room.
My gaze trailed over to Sodo who had silently listened to the exchange. He didn't offer any words, but his warm hand that sought to rest over my knee offered his reassurance. I leaned closer to find shelter in his warmth as another cold gust of wind came to pass.
How could I ask him to further deny our insatiable cravings to touch one another's soul when we have already done so.

It was a frigid evening in late December when Alpha found Zephyr. They were perched, shivering, in front of the shared fireplace. Resting their weight on the heels of their feet, the air ghoul hugged their knees and let their long, white hair fall anywhere it pleased. Though the fire flickering in front of them was made to be larger than usual, Alpha could still see the clouds of Zephyr’s shaky breaths.
Alpha couldn’t stand to watch Zephyr sit and tremble anymore. The ghoul had probably been there for hours, just desperately trying to stay warm. To fill the hole left by Ifrit. The weak rise and fall of their shoulders with every breath, the knots in their usually pristine hair, it hurt the fire ghoul. He and Zephyr had never been close, but he felt pulled to them in this moment. The sun was setting, it was getting colder, it was time to help instead of just observing.or

Winter at the Ministry. Both dreaded and celebrated, depending on who you ask. The walls of the Abbey are well insulated enough that lighting a fire fights off the cold, and any who don’t wish to frolic in the snow can stay indoors. This usually consists of the majority of the water ghouls and a good portion of Siblings of Sin.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that Dewdrop will be escaping from Ifrit’s insistence on going outside.

"Aether knew they were held to different standards than other ghouls in the abbey, let alone ghouls as a whole. Still, it didn’t hurt any less when the clergy was replacing half of the people they had let into their pack years prior. It still hurt when they met their new handler, when Copia introduced himself with a shy but real smile and an outstretched hand, seeing them as equals more than subordinates. It was a stark contrast to how he had met Terzo, but then again he had been summoned by the man. Terzo was… he was a good handler, Aether had been topside before being summoned by the clergy, he knew handlers could be cruel to ghouls, seeing them as possessions rather than beings who had free will. Terzo understood that, he understood their needs and wants but also made sure they understood who summoned them, who was in charge and who could send them back. While Terzo had left little to no doubt about that, but now there was no doubt.
Ifrit had been banished, Zephyr was dead, and Terzo… well he was dead too."
