The Fire Nation found peace within it's own borders again, now that the focus was on her people and not the conquering of others. The people of the Fire Nation were happy.

The news that Fire lord Zuko had been assassinated lands at Sokka's feet in a neatly-bow-tied scroll. A year passes.
Sokka receives the next letter from Iroh's favorite messenger hawk, which he catches as it struggles to land in his balloon.
The letter is short. His eyes skim the scribbled mess on the parchment. He reads the five words over and over and over until his brain catches up with his vision.Sokka,
Zuko is alive.

Zuko is assassinated. For a year, Sokka grieves his best friend and everything he never said, until Zuko appears right back where he died.
