Summary
"Ghost tips forward, leaning his forehead against the ground and grits his teeth so hard they crack before letting out a guttural scream. Please God let this end.
When he’s done yelling, he twists his head back and forth in the dirt, feeling the dirt press into his skin. His breaths catch with each inhale and a sob leaves with each exhale."...
Ghost's gruesome past has a chokehold on his dreams and he finds himself questioning what is real and what is not. He wants nothing more than to wake up. But when he gets his wish, Ghost finds he prefers whatever horror his mind could conjure up over this...anything but this...
He would certainly rather face the monsters in his dreams than the monster in reality... himself.Bookmarked by 12packsofbeer

Summary
As if on a cue, the comms crackled to life.
“Ghost, sitrep.” Price didn’t sound breathless, nor distressed, which Ghost took as a good sign.
“All quiet over here, Cap,” Ghost murmured in response, keeping his voice low. There were no signs of enemy movement anywhere outside, and he had carefully chosen his spot as it provided the most cover for him, but he would rather not make too much noise and attract more attention than he absolutely had to. “Just freezing my ass off.”

Price glanced at Riley and couldn’t believe it was the same person. Sure, the mask made it harder to tell, but those eyes weren’t the same. They were flat, dead eyes.
20 years of Ghost, through Price’s eyes. Mostly through cups of tea and smoke breaks at 0200 hours.

Rather than brag to his co-workers at the office about his boys’ report cards or football trophies, Price instead boasted to Laswell about their kill-counts, their diabolical sabotage tactics, and the substantial amount of lives they’d saved with every successful mission.
They were the closest Price had to having a family, and he was going to embrace it.

Summary
Half a dozen old sandbags hung from chains anchored to the ceiling that swayed and creaked dangerously with each hit. Ghost’s hulking, muscled body was giving the bag in the corner the beating of its lifetime. Next to it lay one of its brethren, chain snapped and sand spilling out the top. If Ghost was already one casualty in, it was a bad night indeed.
When Ghost can't sleep, there's always one place Price can find him.

Summary
He felt like he was on autopilot.
Sometimes it was his default when he got stressed. When a disaster comes out of the blue and he has to be the one to save them all, when the mission seems like something he can’t handle, and when he has to put on a brave face for his crew, he shuts down and detaches his mind from his body.
He goes numb, completely numb, and his body moves without a second thought. He becomes the Captain everyone knows him to be; fearless and reliable. Even as fear makes his blood freeze, he doesn’t show that he’s scared. He straightens his back, takes in a breath, and moves.
