“What do you want with us?” Riz asks.
“Well, that’s the best part. The six of you will, in time, become weapons. That may sound harsh, I understand, but I can guarantee you that you’ll get just as much out of this arrangement as we will. You’ll be improved in every possible way. You’ll be different people by the time we're done with you. Well,” she laughs lightly, “‘done’ might not be the right word. I anticipate a long future spent with the six of you. I hope that, one day, you'll look forward to it as much as I do.”
Riz glowers at The Director. She’s crazy if she thinks that he’ll ever be a voluntary part of this plan of hers.

She’s left looking at intricate illustrations of fairy tales. Little girls in red cloaks, trolls standing under bridges, and beautiful fairies wearing halos of flowers on their heads.
It’s a storybook, Adaine signs.
“What’s so dangerous about a storybook?” Fabian asks.
