Summary
It’s May 1979 and the Order has just apprehended a pair of mysterious wizards who look remarkably like a Potter and a Malfoy. Naturally, James Potter and Sirius Black are called in to identify the strangely familiar strangers and determine their backgrounds and loyalties.
(This would be a lot easier if their captives weren’t convinced everyone they talk to is dead. It would also be easier if they didn’t spend half their bloody time bickering.)

“There’s not a single thing that I know about either of them from the first war that any old Death Eater couldn’t find out.”

Summary
When the professors at Hogwarts decide to roll in a new assignment for the prefects, Regulus is tasked with writing an essay on an impossible topic. Some have to write about their pets, others have to discuss their favourite book. Instead of something simple, he has to write about the person who raised him. Oh, and then he has to present his essay to the whole school.
Regulus doesn’t know how he’ll find a single positive thing to say about his parents. Walburga and Orion aren’t exactly the warm and fuzzy type. He’s quite sure he’s doomed, until a chance meeting with his brother brings forth a humbling realisation.

Regulus went to tell the Ministry about what he discovered, unfortunately he was sent to Azkaban before he would warn them. Memories become nightmares and Regulus was not made to survive Azkaban. By the time Sirius manages to visit him, Regulus' sanity and health have long since fled. With Regulus no longer able to access his long term memories, and struggling to maintain short-term memory, the Marauders chip in to help raise Regulus so they might try to find out just what he wanted to tell the Ministry.

They were the Blacks; they had been associated with danger since they were toddlers. How Sirius couldn’t detect all those warning signs from the tawny-haired boy was beyond him.
Lupin was going to kill Sirius.

It started with a picture of James Potter taken by an unknown person, it ended with a series of tragic love letters shut safely in Regulus Black's dusty bedroom.

That got a reaction out of Narcissa, a subtle flinch, and suddenly Harry knew with absolute surety that the picture must have been Regulus’s.
“He did, didn’t he?”
“They were only a year apart at Hogwarts, of course, they knew each other—”
“Aside from that,” Harry interrupted.
Narcissa’s mouth formed a thin line, and Andromeda nudged her. “You should tell him; dead people don’t need their secrets protected,” she said softly.

Summary
This was why Sirius and Regulus had vowed to never tell anyone of Regulus’ “premonitions” as the older one called them. They felt stronger than a feeling, it was as if the emotions of the other person would soar off of them in waves, pouring over Regulus, overwhelming him. If he reached out, he could understand their emotions even better. A subconscious hand on the shoulder and he could feel that person’s fears, dreams, love, hatred, all of the good and bad in the person. Regulus preferred not to do this though, as it overwhelmed him, gave him an instant headache and was unable to look at that person the same way. Sirius had agreed, calling it “cheating.” If he took several deep breaths and cleared his mind, it was easier to ignore.
A What-If universe, where Regulus had dreams he didn't understand, a blue and bronze tie, and a brother who never gave up on him.
