Vash expected a hard trial when he let Wolfwood lead him to face his brother. He didn't expect Knives to evoke the memories of one of his worst injuries.

“I’m sorry,” Vash whispered, all his energy probably too focused on struggling with what was happening to his body. “I would’ve handled it all. Seriously, I had it worse and I always got through.”
“Not that I don’t believe you… But dude. We’ve been through more than one quicksand together. You don’t have to work through shit alone. Well, I’d be more content if you didn’t!”
Wolfwood didn’t expect to feel so relieved. After all he did hope for some miraculous recovery from Vash. This guy was like a cockroach – if he’s moving, he’ll be alright. Truly a fascinating creature.

Summary
The memory seared back into Wolfwood's mind as the Vash of the present and the Vash of the past coalesced, their joint expressions of horror finally putting the last of the pieces together. Wolfwood could remember it now—the blood on his teeth, the words on his tongue. Spilling a secret that was supposed to die locked inside of him. And now, Vash, who was afraid of nothing, looking at him with fear after finding out that Wolfwood loved him.

An injured Wolfwood confesses to Vash, and Vash can't meet his eye in the aftermath. It's only a matter of time before something finally breaks.

The guy grins at him. “Thanks. I'd wear my prosthetic," the guy explains, gesturing with the hand holding his drink while Wolfwood hangs his coat on the back of the chair across from him. "But those things cost an arm and I've only got the one left if I lose it cause I'm drunk at the bar."
Wolfwood's so surprised by the joke he snorts when he laughs, immediately covering his mouth only to catch the dude grinning at him. He gestures to the seat Wolfwood just hung his coat on.
"Hey, you look lonely," he says. "Want to talk?"

Sad and lonely chain-smoking line cook Wolfwood meets a weird guy at the bar who keeps bees for a living. They get along really well.

Instead of wiping him down Nicholas’ hands trail the length of Vash’s spine again, back along his body and over the towel slung around his hips. “There’s another service I offer, actually.” His hands pause when they reach the back of his thighs, and Vash stills beneath him. “Have you heard of a tantric massage?”
“No,” Vash says slowly, though there’s suspicion in his tone. “What is it?”
“Well.” Nicholas’ hands don’t move, still splayed against his thighs and feeling the warmth of Vash’s skin beneath him. “I don’t strictly follow the rules of it, but it’s the closest thing I can compare it to. It’s a more - intimate massage.”
What starts off as a service soon gets Vash in over his head, captivated with the only man who seems able to give him what he wants.
