Summary
The castle and all it's inhabitants are put under a sleep spell that the sorceress Nimueh claimed could only be lifted when the true king of Camelot could accept Magic as an equal. Though when asleep Arthur's dreams were not entirely his own.
Two years after this day a baby is born, a child of magic that would in time come to be the answer to all of Arthur's questions. As the child grew his days were filled with farm work and chores but his nights belonged to one man, Arthur. The literal man of Merlin's dreams. Every night when he fell asleep it would only be to wake up on a shore with Arthur, the man never aged or changed and was as constant in Merlin's life as his own magic.
Merlin must travel to Camelot and discover his destiny, finding a way to wake Arthur and save Camelot from the tainted magic that holds it in it's grasp. This is the story of a peasant boy putting his life and love on the line, learning of the truth behind a child's bedtime story and his part in the story's resolution. -

“Lancelot---““Merlin, are you sure about that? Are you absolutely sure? Without question, your heart belongs to the king and no one else?”
There is a tightness in the knight’s voice that Merlin’s throat suddenly echoed, his heart beating frantically as he tries to gauge the reaction. He makes a small nod. “Yes.” He whispers.
(After Arthur arrives late from a quest, Merlin is made to face his feelings for the king. With the obvious affection between Arthur and Gwen, he tries to cope. He fails of course.)

Arthur's life had always been pretty normal; He was a mama's boy, got good grades. In Uni, he only drank a little and only smoked pot like once…maybe twice. He had lived on his own since he was 22 and still to this day, hadn't gone hungry or burnt down the kitchen. Yes, Arthur was normal: had a pretty girlfriend, was a promising footie player (Soccer for you American's), and had loads of friends. Yeah, Arthur had been normal…until an insane bloke showed up on his doorstep, one rainy night, telling him he was a dead king. Now Arthur isn't sure what's normal anymore.
