Summary
Tokoyami seems to be lacking inspiration, as everything that he writes ends up feeling empty. One night, after unsuccessfully trying to write something, he goes to the common room to think about something else. Once there, after some time, he meets Kouda, who was struggling with insomnia and decided to come down too. They talk and spend some time together. Kouda always writes down on a notebook his words, as Tokoyami doesn’t know sign language very well. They start spending more and more time together, and soon enough, Tokoyami starts to realize that thinking about Koda actually gives him some interesting ideas, so he starts to write them down on a notebook he always carries with him.

Summary
Suffering an unrequited love not only can have a mental toll on your mind, but it can also affect your physical health; that’s when the Hanahaki disease comes in. Flowers grow and bloom inside of your chest, hindering your breathing and causing you strong chest pain, and if it lasts long, it could even cause death.
Once starting to develop, there are just few options left for you to survive: either the person of your affection will return your feelings so you will be cured; you could get the flowers surgically removed to stop your suffering and getting rid of your feelings too; or you will end up choking on those same flowers, dying.However, when he starts to get affected by the disease, he finds himself unable to consider getting the surgery, getting attached to the sickly feelings that are growing inside of him along his flowers, until he can’t go on.

Tokoyami never did anything to make him feel uncomfortable. Maybe it was because he, like Kouji, had a mutation quirk that made him different from others. Maybe it was because Tokoyami was always patient with Kouji and would ask him about how he felt. No, Tokoyami didn’t make him uncomfortable. But he did make him nervous in the way that his heart beat a little too fast inside his chest and his palms to get a little sweaty.
It had been a little impulsive of Kouji, but when Tokoyami mentioned he could pierce ears—something he had learned and done for friends because he didn’t have any ears of his own to pierce, but, as Kouji himself had been once while they changed for class, had pierced his own belly button—Kouji had thought the idea of getting his own ears pierced seemed fun.
