A guard in a black hazmat suit chuckled darkly, and before Gi-hun could react, he was shoved through the doorway. The door slammed shut behind Gi-hun with a resounding finality, the lock clicking into place.

His breath caught in his throat. His vision blurred at the edges as he stumbled forward, his heart hammering against his ribs. Young-il. He was here. He was alive.

Set immediately after the end of season 2. In which Young-il/In-ho is the Front Man, until he isn't. A tale of how his own guards betray In-ho, but he's too focused on redeeming himself and trying to win Gi-hun back to care. Pining, slow burn and redemption mixed with doubt and a lot of angst.

Summary
As Gi-hun plans his uprising, In-ho debates his decisions: either betray Gi-hun or help end these games he's been stuck in for years. In this alternate ending, he ultimately ends up choosing Gi-hun. But, the Squid Game officials decide they're not quite done with the games and In-ho is now stuck as a real player. Gi-hun and In-ho have to find a new way to work together and take down these horrific games once and for all with the help of their other teammates.

"Viktor was many things. Smart, obviously; attractive and not just in his looks; transparent with his emotions, there was no way to avoid seeing them in his facial expressions; occasionally oversensitive and brutally honest; funny and when he wanted to be, sassy, but he was, inevitably and painfully, a terrible liar.
Jayce should have known this sooner, he had gotten a taste of it the night they had tried to break into Professor Heimerdinger's lab and had been caught in the act by Councilor Medarda. Not because he thought it unlikely that he would follow Viktor into his bedroom in the middle of the night; to be honest, that was an aspect of himself that still confused Jayce, but because there was no way the two of them could have gotten to the wrong hallway and the wrong floor, and besides not with that set of keys. It amazed him that such a lie could have come from the mouth of the very man who would soon become his partner.
Jayce actually found this Viktor's trait quite amusing. The person who had saved his life, the brilliant scientist, was incapable of doing such a foolish thing as lying."Bookmarked by Bcar1102

The light from the Hexstone dimmed. Nothing floated, nothing glowed, and Jayce felt disappointment rise in his chest. With a sigh he took of his goggles and froze in the movement.
Before them stood two people, or better said: one lay on the floor, while the other one was standing next to them, holding a big... hammer?
They had only a second to take in the scenery as the one with the hammer pulled a lever on its handle and with a loud humming sound the head split open to reveal a pulsing multi-coloured light.Neither Jayce, nor Viktor knew, what it meant, but on one hand it didn't look safe and on the other hand the figure on the floor had lifted their head to reveal their face... and it was painfully familiar.
Before he could think Jayce ran forward, his hands raised and put himself between the armed man and... Viktor?---
An absolute normal experiment pulls the future versions of Viktor and Jayce back in time. Good for Viktor, because it had been only milliseconds before his former friend and partner, the one he had trustest the most, had tried to kill him.

A hesitant hand reached forward, Jayce watching as Viktor brushed over the large golden gear screwed tight to the inside of the man’s knee. Breathlessly, he said, “We match.”
Jayce watched his own eyes soften, expression momentarily twitching in pain as he leaned on his hammer and lowered himself into a crouch. With his free hand, he gently gripped Viktor’s chin with his thumb and forefinger. “I never thought I’d get to see you like this again, Viktor.”

Sighing, Viktor rubbed his face on his — Jayce's — blanket, his lungs filling with the familiar, lingering scent. It was a comfort, yet it only deepened the ache in his chest, longing for his old partner's presence.
He hadn't expected the interruption — the sharp clatter of Jayce's hammer hitting the floor, or the sight of him standing in the doorway, frozen, taking in the private scene.
For a moment, neither of them moved, and the weight of their shared silence hung thick in the air. It wasn't how Viktor had imagined this moment, but it was about to become more than either of them could have expected.

"Do you feel me?" He whispers. His eyes land on the glowing crevices, little and shallow slits on his skin that glowed and pulsed. Consumed and entranced by them, long fingers moved from his hip to the narrow fissure above it. It seemed to react to his touch, its pulsating glow intensifying and emitting a strange, energetic, eerie sound.
Jayce slides his ring and middle fingers along the curve and, in one single motion, pushes them in.
