He puts on his best baby voice, the one he uses with his pets, or anytime he's excited, really. "Hi, I'm the kurwa doorman for the building I'm— I help carry bags. Yeah, that's my job, can you believe it?"
She seems to believe his every word, and even the older girl who's glued to Ash's side visibly relaxes. If not for their father shaking his head. "He's lying, don't pay him attention."

Derek wakes up dead and dissected in a mortuary. A living corpse without any organs or any sort of explanation for why he's still alive. Haunted by the King in Yellow, the DMS, and thoughts of Avery's well-being, he stitches himself up and goes to get to the bottom of the situation with the unwanted passenger in his mind tagging along for the ride.
Avery keeps having recurring nightmares about something he's completely forgotten. All he wants to do is get answers without losing himself to the call of the water, promising him understanding if he would just sink into their depths and never wake up again. He doesn't understand why he's so paranoid about being seen but he has a few inklings on the connection between the gaps in his memory and the surveillance he's under. He intends to find out exactly what.
All Hastur wants is keep the both of them in Carcosa, as they should've been in the first place, had it not been for someone's interference in its affairs. It wants to know who was at fault. It wants to do whatever it can to retaliate for stealing what it was rightfully owed.
(tldr: Derek's a zombie, Avery doesn't remember, and Hastur already won.)

Theodore has always preferred to be alone to his devices. The people he knew were overly optimistic for all the wrong reasons and that was an underestimate of his situation.
Playtime Co. was his last hope of earning a spendable salary, otherwise he wouldn’t be working in a toy factory. Too many people and socializing was required, especially since there were families and staff everywhere.
To his surprise though, he doesn’t. He’s assigned as a Researcher in the Labs floors below where the tours are held; he doesn’t know why a toy factory needs scientists, but it means he has a job, which is something he desperately needed. That added with the fact he apparently doesn't need to socialize is a bonus. His boss is a man called Harley Sawyer—Dr. Sawyer—as he likes to be called. Everyone else addresses him as the Doctor. People talk about him constantly, bad things, about who he is and what he does, and honestly he can’t affirm because he’s never met the man.
He’s about to be proven wrong—or right? He never expected to meet the man, and now he can’t say he doesn’t why to smash his boss’s head through the wall, or maybe his own.
Close proximity with your boss drives you bonkers, not recommended.
