Summary
Eddie’s hair was soft where it fell against his skin. He was tempted to play with it but didn’t want to be creepy, didn’t want to weird him out. Steve couldn’t help but wonder how it would feel tangled in his fingers, what it would look like braided and pulled back from his face. What it would look like sprawled across his bed like a halo.
It was easier when he was driving. There wasn’t much to look at in the backseat beside the long plains of grass outside or the twist of Eddie’s curls.
The issue with all this of course was the fact that Eddie Munson was a boy. Well, a man.
Or: Steve experiences the universal feeling of figuring out your whole life (or at least your sexuality) while looking out the window on a road trip.

Steve was great with kids. He was always kind to Holly back when they were dating even though she was only a toddler back then. Holly was still obsessed with him. Now she saw him all the time with Max and Dustin, heck he probably spent more time with Mike than she did. He’d be so great with his own children. She could imagine a mini Steve with big poofy hair and large brown eyes sitting atop his shoulders. It was too cute to even think about.

“But everyone does that?” Steve replied confused, “Like a hot person is just hot right?”
“Oh, I definitely don’t,” Robin said, “Guys just don’t register like that in my brain. Like I can tell if a guy is good looking but attraction is different.”
“Oh,” Steve said, shocked. Suddenly a lot of things seemed different in retrospect. So it wasn’t normal to notice Tommy’s muscles in the shower or the curve of Billy’s neck or the bounce of Eddie’s hair? Because he paid just as much attention to those as he did to the freckles of Nicole’s cheek or the natural flush in Melissa’s cheek.

“Eddie has a tattoo that you’ve never seen before," Robin said.
Steve stared blankly at her. “No, he doesn’t.”
“Yes, he does.”
“Robin, I’ve studied every inch of his skin. I have spent hours staring at him. Eddie has five tattoos.”
He could recite the placement and design of each one in his sleep. He was only mildly obsessive about it.
“Well, clearly not every inch, because he has six tattoos.”
Eddie was shirtless and in shorts. There wasn’t that much skin even hidden, which meant… there were limited possibilities on where the tattoo could even be. Steve tried hard not to let his mind wander, but he couldn’t help but imagine ink sketched across Eddie’s upper thigh, across his pelvis, his hip, his butt. He didn’t know which option would be the most alluring.
Or: Steve finds out about Eddie's hidden tattoo and loses his mind.

Steve felt tears drip done his cheek as he poked himself in the eye again with the stupid eyeliner pen. “Oh, for fuck’s sake.”
Robin turned to look at him before bursting into laughter. “Steve, oh god. What did you do?”
“Stop laughing and help me fix this,” Steve hissed, sinking down to join her on the floor. They always seemed to end up on bathroom floors; it was a pillar of their friendship.
She sighed. “Fine. But let the record state that I find this ridiculous and unnecessary.”
“Look, I just want Eddie to look at me. And this is what he’s into. He’s not into conformity,” Steve said, picking at his stupid polo shirt.
Or: Steve tries to be punk to better fit into Eddie's type. Eddie doesn't like it. Things work out anyway.

A man with a perfectly messed up in a cool way head of hair, golden flecked brown eyes with moles and a few random out of place freckles blinks back, checking the Apple Watch on his wrist and then the door number.
“You made an appointment with the spa right? I’m your 3 o’clock, I’m sorry I’m late we had kind of a mixup with half our freelancers, I’m not good with technology, so like-“

Eddie chuckles, and Steve relishes the feeling of it vibrating against his face.
“So,” he mumbles, “Chicago.”
“Chicago.” Eddie says back. He grins, and Steve yelps at the feeling of Eddie's hands gripping his thighs and pulling him up into his arms.

To say it was freshly-baked cookies would be underselling it. It wasn’t just cookies, it was the Platonic idea of cookies; of baking cookies at home with his mom, which admittedly he didn’t even know if he had ever done. But standing in this shop, basking in this smell (and also being very high), Eddie suddenly had an idea of what it was like to be cared for in this way.
