But he does remember wishing he had. He remembers sitting in a daze as he stared at the grinning face of a boy who tried so hard to be his friend. And he'd only been burned in return. Katsuki regrets a lot of things. The longer he spent at UA, the more he realized just how wrong it was. Time passed. People died. A war was fought and lost. In the end, he knelt in the blood and grime, staring up at the stars as he wondered what it was all for.
Then, he opened his eyes the day he made the worst mistake of his life, holding a charred notebook in his grasp while staring at the tiny figure staring at him with wide and hurt eyes.

As they both struggle to overcome their problems and support their surrogate brothers, Izuku and Katsuki somehow find themselves leading their class into the world of heroes- and desperately trying to protect a little girl called Eri, the first person they saved as a team.

So he knows how it feels to be considered less than human from everyone else; from his classmates' mockery and beatings to his teachers' willful ignorance. It was clear just what the world thought of him. But no matter what they've said, no matter how many times they've tried to beat him down, no matter how many times Bakugo had tried to burn it out of him, he's never deviated from what he truly wants to be.
A hero that'll save anyone, especially those no one bothered to save.
Those just like him.
At least soon things will be different. With the opportunity given to him, he'll get into U.A., and once he was there, Bakugo nor anyone else will be able to hurt him anymore. He could finally feel safe for once in his life, he'll no longer have to feel afraid.
After all, U.A. is considered the most prestigious hero school in the world, they had to be better.
