Steve frowns, looks at Eddie for the first time. ‘America?’
Eddie’s patience frays so hard it almost snaps. He gets hold of Steve’s face, fingers digging in hard. ‘I put my ass on the line for you, I lost money I don’t have and I’m gonna need you to snap the fuck out of this, right? We’re both gonna end up dead otherwise.’
Steve strokes the side of Eddie’s cheek. ‘Don’t be scared of dying,’ he whispers, tone melodic. ‘We’ll just try again next time.’
Kid’s lost it.
Fucking hell.
Eddie shrugs away from the touch, hisses. ‘No, see, I’m not dying for anybody, you get me? Now, I fucked up back there and I helped you so the least you can do is help me.’
‘Help you,’ Steve says, nodding slowly. ‘OK. All right.’
‘Yeah, damn fucking straight it’s all right. No more of this loopy shit. You gotta watch your back.’
Steve’s eyes are hopelessly expressive. Eddie almost wishes he’d go back to the celestial disconnect of before. ‘Watch your back. Promise.’

Summary
The collar around Nick’s throat is nothing but a ruse, a fake he put there himself to hide the fact that he doesn’t have a registered Dominant. He doesn’t need one, either - he’s managing himself perfectly fine, exactly the way Aunt Marie taught him to.
But then Aunt Marie dies. Monsters pop up everywhere he goes. Nick starts spiraling, and the collar around his throat means no one is willing to step in to help.
No one except Captain Renard, who agrees on one condition: Nick must wear his collar instead.

Broke and back in his childhood home, a high school diploma and accidentally acquired plaque declaring him Employee of the Month! the only thing to show for thirty five years on this big, green earth.

This didn’t help Andrew. While he hadn’t met Alex, Stefan, or Chris, they didn’t grab his attention like Nathaniel did. Not because they weren’t interesting, but because they hadn’t fronted in years. Nathaniel was around often. He just didn’t speak to anyone but Kevin.
Andrew didn’t know what to think of Nathaniel. Until he did.
