The farmer is dead.
It’s been one single, measly year in Pelican Town, and the farmer is dead. A freak accident, changing the course of every life in town, but none more than those of her three best friends.
Because for some stupid reason, she left the farm to those three best friends, rather than handing it over to the bank or letting Lewis make the call. And, for some stupider reason, Abigail, Sebastian, and Sam agreed to it. Nevermind that they're all swimming in oceans of grief which feel bottomless. Nevermind that Sam and Sebastian are the biggest will they won't they that Pelican Town has ever seen. Nevermind that out of the three of them, exactly none of them know the first thing about running a farm.
But, after all, it's just gardening. How hard could it be?

Sam always knew the day would come when Sebastian, the last of his friends and the last of the people in his age group, would leave Pelican Town. He asked Sam to go with him, probably at least a hundred times, but Sam knows he has to stay.
Now he's facing what his 'forever' looks like, trapped in Pelican Town, dealing with his mom's inability to do anything hard or inconveniencing for herself, and working at JojaMart to make ends meet for his whole family.
What he isn't banking on is an unlikely friend stepping up from nowhere... Someone who may actually help him see his worth, his place in the world... And someone he could give those same gifts back to.

For the record, Garroth didn’t intend to become an accomplice in an under-the-table trade deal. Things just ended up that way, circumstantially. Elderly women aren’t particularly great at inconspicuously smuggling goods, and Garroth will do anything to get out of the kitchen. So any moral ambiguity there is something he can worry about later, when it stops being convenient.
It certainly makes it easier to sweep things under the rug when the only other accomplice in the trade is a mysterious, cute florist who knows everything and nothing at all.
