The footsteps paused and then hurried in his direction. The doorknob jiggled as Nina cursed on the other side in Ravkan. Then—“Shut up, Brekker, how do I get this thing open?”
“Have you considered unlocking it?” Kaz asked.

Kaz gets kidnapped by slavers in an attempt to lure out the Pirate Queen of the True Sea. Unfortunately for said slavers, they don't expect a full murder of Crows to come after him.

“Gil,” Malcolm says, sounding winded and in pain. “Gil, I—I’m sorry, I—I just—"
Gil’s already on his feet, halfway to the closet and shedding his pajamas while he keeps the device tucked to his ear with his shoulder. “Hey, hey—tell me what’s wrong, Malcolm. Are you safe?”
Malcolm hesitates, a few hacking coughs muffled by his hand or elbow, and then says, “No.”

That's no secret -- jumping headfirst into dangerous situations and signing out of the hospital AMA every chance he gets isn't exactly something a normal person would do. What happens when he's just a little bit less careful, or when the team is a little bit more perceptive?
Scenes from each episode, except Malcolm somehow gets even more whump than the show already gave him. Author is not a fan of hurt-no-comfort, so fear not, Malcolm will get hugs. ...Eventually.
