They walk through the tunnel, and Yuji is being suspiciously quiet. He keeps looking over at Nobara, and he’s got this horrible look on his face that tells her that he’s attempting to use his brain. Nobara swings her hammer at her side. Megumi’s frog hops behind them; she feels a little queasy every time she hears the moist pads of its feet connect with the tunnel’s stone floor.
She tries to ignore the weird feeling, that pit gathering in her stomach. Something about this little girl is strange, and yet so familiar. She’s smiling at Yuji, and Nobara realises that she’s right– something is familiar about this little girl. She can’t put her finger on it, but she recognises that smile. Yuji almost stumbles over a rock, and her face changes into a little pout– Nobara swears she’s seen that pout somewhere…and those amber coloured eyes.

He probably decided that he wasn’t going to marry Kurusu a long time ago, deep inside of him, and it had only come to the surface at the very last moment, as such things often did. People often realised things that their hearts knew far later, the dissonance between body and mind was a gap which the philosophers had tried, and failed, to master. People didn’t often set out to be terrible people; it just often ended up being the case.

He walks along the sidewalk, staring at the groups of teenage girls with their shopping bags, the college-aged couples. The families. The girls laugh and joke, poking each other’s sides, they’ve made out like bandits in the sales, holding up overstuffed shopping bags featuring the logos of department stories. The tall one in the middle squeals when she nearly drops her bag, and he slips forward and catches it before it hits the floor. He passes it to the girl, who bows in thanks several times. He raises his hands, he doesn’t like it when others thank him– it makes him feel bashful. Megumi just does what anyone else would if they were in his shoes.
He continues walking. He gets sprayed by a fancy sports car, which is being driven by a guy with a terrible haircut. He shrugs it off. A group of college students stumble out of a bar, one of them nearly knocking him over. He shrugs that off as well, though he can feel a vein in his forehead twitch from irritation. An old woman runs over his shoe with her walker, a dog nearly bites him, and someone almost spills a beer on him. He grinds his teeth, but he doesn’t let any of it get to him.
When did he become so passive?

“No– we can’t,” He confirms. She nods.
She seems oddly serene, like she’s in a trance-like state. He can’t bring himself to be angry with her, knowing that her hormones are likely out of control. Besides, it’s his fault more than it was hers. He had failed to exercise self-control. Sure she could have objected at any point, but it was up to him to ensure that they were being safe.
“What the fuck are we going to do?” She asks, panic has crept into her voice, she gives him an exasperated look.
He sighs.
“I don’t know”
