Diego’s week seemed to be going from bad to worse, to even worse, to even worse.
His girlfriend broke up with him on the night that his estranged father died and his brother thought that he killed him. His police captain was threatening his job and the asshole orphan kid he found at a crime scene just called him in the middle of the night.
“I’m outside of Grimbel Brother’s Department store,” He spoke even but urgently into the phone. “At the payphones. You have ten minutes.”

He fucking knows that Billy was dead, okay. He knows, but he doesn’t think the shape in the corner knows.
The shadow in the corner of the room that wasn’t really there, that was nothing more than the remnant of a nightmare or a sleep deprived hallucination, or some trick of light, didn’t know that Billy was dead. It still thought that it was funny to be Billy shaped, to be a nightmare in his waking hours, haunting him in the most fucked up way.

Steve ripped his shoulder out of his grip, putting distance between them, and Billy’s eyes flickered down to the knife still in Steve’s hand, grinning like they were just playing a game. He grinned like he wasn’t a murderer, like Steve wasn’t his captive, like that girl deserved any of this.
He licked over his bottom lip like they were still in a standoff outside of the Byers’ house, like this knife wasn’t used to kill some innocent eighteen year old girl, like Steve didn’t want to fucking stab him over and over, and over again until Billy got it.
Steve wasn’t the Bonnie to his Claude. He was never going to be.
“Behave, pretty boy,” Billy said with a raise eyebrow, almost challenging him. “Better put that down before you get yourself hurt.”

“Mmm… no,” Steve says softly. “It struck me as a great idea. Bet you’re not even that bad. You just wanna look scary, but I don’t actually think you are.”
Eddie raises his eyebrows at him, and he politely chooses to not inform him about the switchblade in his pocket.
“No?” Eddie asks. “That’s a dangerous leap of faith, you know. It’s not something you wanna be wrong about.”
Steve hovers closer. Eddie doesn’t move away, but he does take the cigarette out from between his lips.
“Yep. Guess you’re just gonna have to be nice to me then,” Steve says.
