Summary
Ren's got a band to lead, a stage to own, and a reputation for being the guy who always knows what to say at exactly the right time. So when Martyn starts showing up in every corner of his life -backstage, after shows, in the quiet moments between chaos- Ren treats it like it’s normal. Harmless. Even when it isn’t. Because Martyn laughs like he means it, looks at Ren like he’s already halfway gone, and somehow makes “just friends” feel like a lie neither of them is willing to say out loud.
Martyn, the lead singer of a two person band is loud, confident, and always a step ahead. (at least on stage.) Offstage is different. Offstage is Ren leaning into him like it’s the most natural thing in the world, Ren calling him pet names like it means something more than a joke, Ren making it harder and harder to pretend this is all just coincidence. Martyn tells himself it’s nothing. That he and Ren are just friends who happen to fit too well together. But the truth keeps slipping through the cracks anyway.

Grian is chosen by his district to participate in the 25th annual Hunger Games. He is angry and ready to do anything to survive – even if that means driving a trident through the throat of Scar Goodtimes, his former best friend and the man who volunteered to die beside him.
For Scar, it wasn’t much of a choice, really. Choosing to follow Grian into the arena. Scar’s life is expendable, and he’d be damned if Grian doesn't make it home. But this year, the games are…different. The Quarter Quell always comes with surprises, after all.
So, in an arena where love can be just as deadly as a weapon, what happens if you accidentally kill the person you’re trying to save?

-promises, HadestownRen's convinced he can live his entire life concealed and safe behind the mask of playing a role. Being a hybrid in a world filled to the brim with people who will stop at nothing to cause you pain and suffering will teach you that.
Martyn's convinced the world is unsafe and untrustworthy. He knows that he's undoubtedly better off alone. Living in the foster home he'd been shoved into taught him that at a very early age.
They're both convinced that playing Orpheus and Eurydice in their school's rendition of Hadestown will open all the right doors they need for their future careers in musical theatre.
When curtains are drawn back, and vulnerability is directly in the middle of the stage, spotlights forcing them to see nothing else in their wake, they need to be brave. Masks will need to be thrown out, and walls will need to be torn down.
(You 100% do not need to know the Hadestown musical to enjoy this fic to its full potential <3)
