Summary
Annabeth Chase was terrified, more than anything in the world, of Percy Jackson leaving her. This was a reoccurring fear; in part due to the copious amounts of times she'd been abandoned as a child, and in part because of how dangerous their lives were. At some point, it all became too much, and Annabeth couldn't take it anymore. Before Percy had a chance to leave her, Annabeth would do it herself. It's supposed to hurt less that way, right? Turns out, she'd been wrong; because nothing in the world had ever hurt her the way being in love with Percy Jackson had.
Or: the one in which a very depressed Annabeth self sabotages, almost ruining the best thing that's ever happened to her.

Tim swallows hard, his eyes never leaving hers as she speaks.
He can see the tears in her eyes. She’s stubbornly refusing to let them fall, because she’s one of the strongest women he’s ever known, but he sees them and he hates what they represent.

Summary
She can hear the squeal of rubber tires before she actually sees Steve pelting onto her street like the bats of Hell are on his tail and thinks, for a moment, that Billy is back, scorching the roads with his reckless driving. Any second, he'll swing out from the driver's seat of the blue Camaro, cigarette hanging loosely from his scowling lips as smoke drifts across his face, and Max will scarper back up the hall to her room before he sees her. Familiar, routine; she wonders whether, if she had the chance now while still knowing what she knows, she would still run from him instead of tentatively, carefully, extending that olive branch she had once offered when they first met. Wonders whether he would accept it instead of snapping it two and throwing it back in her face.
In the Battle of Starcourt aftermath, Max is struggling with the impact of Billy's death and her mother's spiralling mental health alone, all her friends fixated on the loss of Jim Hopper and the impending departure of the Byers to California come September. But when she gains the friendship of Steve Harrington and Eddie Munson to fight in her corner, things might just begin to change for the better.

Summary
She knows she’s far gone past the point of ignorance and avoidance when she beams at him in an uncalculated, full-fledged instinctual way that Lydia has never been familiar with. With Stiles though, she finds it remarkably easy. He’s not shielding her anymore; he’s soothing the cracks in her soul with the honey that’s practically dripping from his eyes in a way that suggests that she doesn’t need to rely on facts nearly as much with him. She can be irrational, abstract, messy with him, and he will still be looking at her like she’s perfectly crystal clear.
Or, the five times Lydia tries to tell Stiles she loves him and the one time she did.
