“And you’re still hiding in the woods playing with sharp objects,” Harrow replied, “things really don’t change.”
“You know, I really did miss your banter. No one’s mean to me like you are.”
“I…” Harrow was so over this interaction and how it was opening a pit in her stomach. Being mean hadn’t even been her intention, it just always seemed to happen.
She took a few steps back, feeling small, “I’m going back inside now, join us if you want or stay out here playing with your wood for all I care.”
Returning to her hometown was something that Harrow had never planned to do for many reasons, one of which just happened to be a certain obnoxious redhead who she'd always had a contentious relationship with. But when she inherits her family home after her aunt's death it's her best option to get out of a bad roommate situation.
It's hard to completely avoid someone in a small town, and Harrow quickly finds that maybe that isn't a bad thing. That maybe the place (and person) she'd spent so long running from could actually be what she needed all along.

The first time he said that word, Pyrrha overheard and said, ‘Dick Tate? I hardly know him!’ and then Palamedes said ‘stop interrupting, and we don’t know anyone named Tate.’ Palamedes says I’m getting off topic again. Anyway, Palamedes is writing for me because I can’t. I don’t understand why that’s so important, but Palamedes says not disclosing that information is a serious breach of academic integrity. I don’t know what that means, but apparently you will, and you’ll think it’s important.

Gideon tries not to think too much these days. She wants to focus on fighting this war, not the weird side effects of perfect Lyctorhood or the fact that Harrow can barely seem to be in the same room with her or that everyone keeps treating her like a bomb about to go off. It's going pretty well, if you ask her. Until she gets herself hurt protecting her useless necro, again, and Harrow's reaction does not fill her with warm, fuzzy feelings.
