Harrow didn’t like the sound of that huh. She knew Gideon’s noises, and that was a thoughtful, sinister huh. That was the same huh she’d made before putting canned tuna in Crux’s work boots.
Her eyes narrowed. “What.”
Gideon cocked her head to the side. “Is there a reason you’re waiting?” There was no judgement in the question— only genuine curiosity.
Perhaps it was this that made Harrow more inclined to answer. “I don’t have the time to look for someone new,” She shrugged. “And my available pool is… somewhat limited.”
“Well,” Gideon said, with just a hint of conspiracy in those glittering golden eyes. “If you ever want to change that, you have my number.”
What? What?
Harrow blinked. “What?”

“Aiglamene likes swords.” The walls of Scabbards are leaden with them, replicas of swords, pictures of swords, a suit of armor off in a corner holding–you guessed it–a sword.
“So why not call the bar ‘Swords’?”
“Well,” Gideon is only a little delighted that she’s asked this. “Imagine a sword is a dick, then a scabbard must be a–”
“Ah.”
“‘Pussys’ would be too on the nose for a lesbian bar, so Scabbards it is.” Gideon leans forward, hands on the counter and a conspiratorial tone in her voice. “You do know you’re in a lesbian bar, right?”
“Yes, Griddle. I have eyes and critical thinking skills.” Harrow takes another too-big drink.
“I didn’t know nuns went to lesbian bars.” Gideon says, to be a shit.Or: I was just gonna write a fun little thing about Gideon being a bartender and a drummer because I find both of those things attractive, and then 2k of tragic catholic guilt attached itself to Harrow like a revenant, so shit got angsty.

It was excruciating to watch, but at the moment, felt preferable to watching Gideon awkwardly scratch her head and ask “How’s stall set-up going?” as if it would ever be possible for the two of them to have a normal conversation.

It’s Harrow’s last year selling bone jewelry at the Dominicus Renaissance Faire before she finishes her PhD. “Nothing wrong with your arse,” Adora startles as a playful voice seeps into her ear and she feels the bristle of another woman’s hair on her shoulder, “Posture is another story, though.”
Adora can only gape open-mouthed as she watches a slight brunette saunter past her and work her way to the very front of the class. It’s impossible to look away from her smooth complexion and dark brown waves - Adora thinks her hair might be natural, not even a blow-out - but when the woman starts to stretch, her leg propped high on the barre, heat prickles inexplicably across Adora’s chest.

Entrapta giggles madly, spinning her binder towards them. "I knew it! The witch is real!”
Before them is a crude depiction of a woman cutting off her hand, surrounded by rocks and a large tree with a noose hanging from it. Blood and fire pool around her feet, and it almost looks like she has devil horns.
“C’yra Fier was hanged for witchcraft in 1666 — that’s a fact. You can look it up in any of the town’s historical ledgers. Ever since then, she’s been possessing innocent people and turning them into slaves to get revenge on the town that killed her.”

Adora drops her hand as if she's been burned. She doesn't need her to elaborate further to know what she's stumbled on. The name of whatever lucky girl will get to call Cat hers forever. She bites her lip to keep from asking if she'd ever thought about the name Catra.
Every time Cat tried a new name it felt like it was getting closer and closer—Cassidy, Caitlin, Katherine—and her heart dropped every time Cat tried on another name that wasn't the one embossed on her shoulder.

Adora doesn’t look at me. She just smiles and stares out at the valley. “We’re going to do so much for the Horde. You’re going to be singing in the High Choir and writing hymnals, and I’ll be charged with a Seminary—oh! Or on a Sojourn… teaching our histories to all of Etheria and sharing Prime’s Light…”
She makes it sound almost whimsical. But it’s not.
I bite my lip. “If you’re on a Sojourn we’ll never get to see each other.”
She finally looks up at me and she frowns. I almost feel bad for taking her smile away. “I don’t have to submit for a Sojourn. It was just an idea.” She pulls her arm from my shoulders but lays her hand next to mine and grazes the back of it with her fingertips. “Who knows, maybe I’d be considered for Priesthood.”
I laugh, trying to shake my nerves. I don’t like the idea of Adora going away or being a priestess. If Adora becomes a priestess then—then we can’t—
I shake the thought. That’s stupid. Adora wouldn’t… she wouldn’t want that anyway.
OR The Horde is a church that Adora and Catra are in training to serve in and then it all goes to hell when She-Ra shows up.
