He had also been taken by the All-Father, in a similarly unremarkable manner. Or at least, one that was unremarkable in the eyes of the court and the other Evanuris; his times with Mythal were deeply significant to them both, while his times with Elgar'nan were profoundly complex, a heady mix of shame and desire that mingled to strange effect.

"Is that why you jumped on the grenade?"
"I don't know. I saw it, I went for it. If I weren't immortal I would be dead many times over. I'm not a fancy fighter." He took a peek and got grazed on the side of his head. "Ow. Fuck. How are you handling the transition?"
"It's weird," she said truthfully. "Everyone's a million years older than me."
"Yeah," he said with a horribly insincere grin as blood trickled down the side of his face. "And they'll never really get it. Quynh was a hundred by the time Andy found her. Joe and Nicky died together. And then there's us."
Everyone else is very old and paired off, so Nile decides her cohort needs to unionize. Any good union comes with benefits, even it takes you both ten years to be ready for all of them.
