Robin's question hangs heavy in the air.
The task is dangerous. It needs to be someone that's fast, someone that can outrun the mindflayer long enough to fully lure it into the canyon.
Mike blinks, his eyes trailing down, to the flares on his chest. Nancy had given them to him earlier, due to his complaint about her hoarding all the firepower.
A weapon that draws attention like no other, designed to pinpoint someone's location.
Designed to be followed.
'See how you're leading us here? You're guiding the party.'
The words are in the back of his mind, Will's voice clear in his skull.
He needs to be the one to do it. Mike, leading the party.

Summary
He’d stared at Will without really seeing him, so caught up in his own thoughts—a constant, monotonous beat of oh my God, I’m alive. Oh my God, Will has powers. Oh my God, he saved me.
And then—
Oh my God, he’s beautiful.
The thought had stopped him short, had landed with a soft and devastating clarity.
Beautiful.
That single word had broken something open within him, something he’d spent years reinforcing with lock and chain and prayer and denial.
After Will saves Mike from the demogorgon at the MAC-Z, Mike finally lets himself acknowledge a truth he's been running from for years:
He is in love with Will Byers.
Now all Mike has to do is come to terms with that truth—especially when Joyce sees it too.

He can't, he can't-) but they make a nest of pillows and blankets in Will’s bed, Mike borrows a pair of pajamas, they shuffle in together and as he falls asleep he makes sure to tap out on Mike's skin:

OR: What starts as a distraction from missing Max turns into the most complicated plan of Lucas’s life as he shifts from helping Will get over Mike to setting them up together (because he’s the bestest, most supportive friend ever, obviously!)
