It feels like being turned inside out, like every cell in her body is being torn apart and put back together wrong. The warehouse disappears into a blur of color and sound and then she's there, directly between Mira and the demon, close enough to see the surprise in Mira's eyes.
The demon's swing catches Rumi square in the ribs. She feels the impact, feels something crack deep inside, multiple somethings, bones splintering like dry wood, and then she's flying.

What if the story started from day one and it was told differently?
Where, Demon hunting is an underground business, funded by elite families and established lineages.
Zoey and Mira already know eachother and have been dating for a while. They move to the new HUNTR/X tower where they are to be teamed with Rumi.
Rumi is a half-demon, with more problems hiding what she is than just patterns. She is a shell of herself. Chosing unhealthy coping mechanisms and vices.
In which Celine's strict lifestyle and abusive methods of... making her compliant create a person who needs help discovering themself and being who they are meant to be.
Also Bobby is a cinnamon roll.

Summary
After everything, the girls talk. It's messy (there's crying and anger and fear and love), and it ends with a promise: No more lies. It's only afterwards that Rumi thinks of her visit to Celine, and she very promptly decides NOT to share that particular experience with Mira and Zoey, content to let that little snippet of time die quietly in her memories alone (and really, what harm can one more lie be?). But, as Rumi has found out recently, her secrets have a way of coming to light, whether she wants them to or not.
