It should really be no surprise then that Essek went through exactly one heat at the peak of puberty and never again. A fact that never bothered him much until recently.

Normally, the sight of so much blood and gore would be cause for her stomach to squirm with excitement and for her lips to tug briefly upwards, before being jerked down as she became awash with guilt and fatigue at fighting the Dark Urge.
But right now, in this moment? She only feels the horrible, aching sensation-–the one that claws at her heart and drags down her chest, that leaves her empty and drained and her head pounding to fill the space. It is like before, only this time it’s stronger, louder, sharper.
