Frank said that being nervous is fine, and Buck just said he's proud, and the only thought Eddie has in his head is that it's embarrassing he can't raise his head and say it like a man, so clearly, he's going to need to hang on to other people's words for the time being, someone who isn't his dad trying to explain the ways Eddie's allowed to inhabit the world.

It’s a dick move, but his head is starting to feel too small, everything is whirling, so maybe he should take Eddie up on those –

“What?” Eddie demands, glaring back with his usual pent up annoyance, only now the expression is ghosted over with a flickering memory of a boy that Richie had entirely forgotten.

Massive paws, shaggy black fur, slobbering jaws. An expectant expression. Connor blinks. Throws. The dog booms a joyful bark and chases, plowing heedlessly through the grid markers, returning with all three tails wagging to drop the bone at Connor’s feet.
