Well. She'd certainly entertained the possibility they weren't from here, before. She'd done quite a lot of looking into other alphabets, after all, and found nothing whatsoever.
She'd also sort of thought that was crazy, though. There are a lot of people on Earth, and not a lot of those people speak the same language. It was more realistic to think it was just something niche.
Not so crazy as all that, after all.

“When I told you this city is my home–” Lestat starts. “I was being truthful. There’s no other place I could ever live but here.” The crooked smile on his lips turns a bit sadder. “This is where I met you.” He pauses, then says, “Where I lost you.”
“You didn’t–”
“I did.” There’s tenderness in the back of his gaze, so much of it Louis almost feels out of breath. “Do not soften the blow for me, Louis. We both know I don’t deserve it.”
Louis says nothing for a moment. The weight of the years they’ve shared presses against his chest, as if Lestat had stretched out his arm and his hand had come to rest right where his heart is furiously beating like a hummingbird. He wonders if they’ll ever make peace with it, or if the work of living is just this – to accept the burden of it, and carry it as best as they can.
Then, he sighs. “I’m here now.”
or: four times Louis comes back to New Orleans, and how he finds his way back to Lestat.

Every wall he built crumbled to dust. He had no foundation left to build off of. No rubble to try and cover himself with. He was left with only ashes and dust.
