[“Do you know who that is?” Zuko demands at last.
Piandao lifts a brow, wonders what he had done in a past life that made him the target of an (exiled but still) Prince's demands. “Sokka. From the Southern Water Tribe.”
Recognition flashes across Zuko’s face—quickly buried. His jaw tightens. Piandao has read the reports from the Dragon of the West, heard the rumors swirling around: a clever, resourceful, fiercely loyal, battle-tested leader who was really just another child forced to grow up too fast. Sokka of the Southern Water Tribe, traveling with—
“The Avatar,” Zuko growls, teeth gritted, “He’s traveling with the Avatar.”]
or, Instead of meeting Zuko as the Jerkbender Prince, Sokka meets him at Piandao's estate. He's still a jerk.

The 100-year war is more of a 95-year war, end earlier for reasons that don't matter right now. After a few years of negotiations, Firelord Azulon wants a marriage alliance between the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe and a member of the Fire Nation royal family. No one really wants this, but after five years, Hakoda can tell his people are tired and want to move on, so he's willing to do what it takes to make peace happen. That is until the Fire Nation sends him a child to marry, and there is no way in hell that is happening.

Summary
“What are you doing here?” Zuko growls, squinting suspiciously at Sokka, not yet reaching for a weapon. Sokka takes it as a good sign and straightens up, stepping into the doorway.
“I am your Wolf Cove cultural liaison," Sokka declares confidently.
There’s a long, awkward moment of silence. Sokka expects outrage or indignation, but Zuko just tilts his head, cat-like, still squinting at him. “Wolf Cove?” he says slowly. “Is that where we are?”
Sokka blinks rapidly, feeling a little like the world just lurched beneath his feet. “What kind of question is that?” he asks incredulously, striding into the room fully. “How can you not even know where you are?”
Zuko flushes and grits his teeth. “Go away, Sokka.”
Sokka simply lights up with glee. “You remembered my name!” He laughs in delight. “See, you do care!”
When Sokka is thirteen, the grumpy boy and his weird uncle turn up in Wolf Cove. Zuko is rude, he's annoying, and he's a puzzle Sokka just can't solve. It's exactly what he needs to make things interesting around here.
A story about two teenagers making it to adulthood in their own ways.
They'll figure it out.Series
