Florets! We love 'em here in the compact. And here, a group of our favorite florets have joined together to hold court on... whatever they want! Just a short, pleasant presentation about whatever they're obsessed about - except their Owners, obviously!
An open collaboration with the HDG writers discord!

Summary
Set in GlitchyRobo's Human Domestication Guide setting.
Humanity has been invaded by a precursor race of hypercompetent plant dommes called the Affini, and forcibly given paradise in a post-scarcity culture that heavily prioritizes the care for its protectorates, to the point of drugging and mind-controlling them into a blissful reverie if necessary. For almost everyone this is a vast improvement. All that's required is to give up any silly notions that anyone except for the Affini know what's best for everyone; in many cases the poor things clearly don't.
Indi has a fun day in the place with the big people.
No formatting tricks or anything this time. This story takes place on the Trillium, but does not require any part of The Place Where We Can Stop Running to understand.

Charlie Fitzgerald has seen too many instances of moving fast and breaking things to trust the green tide that swept across her city after the aliens came, and in particular, the magic mystery box in her kitchen. They said it could compile anything. She didn't believe them.
A short one-shot ventfic about a news item I found particularly distasteful. No formatting tricks or anything this time. I'm just writing.
My contribution to the September Sprout Scribblings jam.

Arc 7 of The Place Where We Can Stop Running. Without reading it and its sequels, many references and ideas in this story will not be clear. Please read the first six arcs first.
This story contains CSS formatting, emoji as language, and other tricks. Every attempt has been made to render this story legible if "Hide Creator's Style" is used. In some cases, the difficulty of reading is the point.

Some sophonts prefer the sound of waves lapping at a shore. Others, the soft humming of a hypermetric engine. Genty babbling brooks. But to me, nothing is more calming than the sound of my floret, fast asleep.

A short-but-unbelievably-sweet oneshot that absolutely nails the mix of quiet tranquility and excited desire that marks a good somnophilia scene. Absolutely worth the read if you're into that sort of thing.

Summary
Tamara Slaine: attorney, wife, Martian. She endures the crushing gravity of the ancestral homeworld and the gladhanding and bootlicking that comes of managing the money of the elite for the sake of her clients, whom she represents in the legalistic hell of the Accord's courts, and for her wife, Judy, who she privately keeps as a pet totally free of any responsibilities.
When the Affini come, Tam's world is utterly upended. Her struggle against the State, once all-but-impossible, is over. Now her only concern is assisting the Affini as they help her incarcerated clients adjust to a new reality, and adjusting herself to the new reality of her alien overlords also keeping humans as pets. She finds herself questioning what it means to be Tam, what it means to "own" her wife, and even what it means to be human.
(Set in the Human Domestication Guide universe, based on GlitchyRobo's story.)

Bookmarker's Notes
Some stories are less about big deep conflicts and more about the slow progress towards the inexorable conclusion. A whodunit doesn't tell you the identity of the antagonist until the end; a howcatchem gives you that up front and concerns itself with the twists and turns of, well, how they're caught.
HDG is kind of a howcatchem genre, I think. But Sui Generis is a spectacular example of it.

Summary
Grace's rules for dealing with unwanted alien enthralment:
- if u fail any of the checks, follow the rules regardless of how much you think it isn't necessary. Do so until you are safe, alone, and certain that you are no longer failing any of the checks. If there's room for doubt, you're compromised. Don't argue with me on this, future Grace.
- If you can, reach out to a trusted third party who is unlikely to have fallen to the same compulsion you have and do exactly as they say. Do not question or argue, because that's exactly what the thing that compromised you will want.
- If you can't find a trusted figure, do what you can to follow the plan on your own. Trust nobody, just focus on the next task, even if you no longer think it's a good idea.
- If you're blocked from progressing on the next task on your own, try to identify and remove whatever is blocking you.
- If you can't find the roadblock, try to find and remove the source of the mental compromise. This is the most dangerous fallback option, but the affini are apex predators and may not always leave you a safe way out. Be careful. If running will save you, then run.

Bookmarker's Notes
I have absolutely no idea how someone writes a story like this. It's like getting to study a masterwork watch. It's an intricate spiral of logic and counter-logic that seems inevitable but only in hindsight. It's the Black Swan twist in Honkai: Star Rail's Penacony saga 500 times in a row. I spent the entire back half of the story with my jaw hanging open. Read it.
