Hips angled up, legs splayed apart from where he’s leaning his body weight on a bike rack, one hand gripping the steel frame and the other resting on the nape of another man’s neck. Gary-fucking-Smith’s lips are splayed agape, pulling Derby Harrington in by his hair. Smoke is blown into his open mouth, where Gary pulls it into his lungs with a deep inhale.
Shotgunning a cigarette like a cute fucking couple, instead of a pair of sociopaths.

No jittery fingers drumming the desk. No restless leg bouncing under the seat. Just calm, deliberate movements as the guy turned a page in his notebook, pen moving in neat, controlled strokes.

The guy turned his head slightly to the side and Jimmy’s stomach dropped. That scar on his eyebrow.

At first it was just the jawline that made his stomach jolt. Then the voice—rougher, higher-pitched, younger—but unmistakably his. And when the camera panned down, bare chest rising and falling with breathy gasps, lit by harsh, clinical lighting, Mike nearly dropped his laptop.

Summary
Between one moment and the next Peter rips the thing off himself, and he’s never been so simultaneously certain and terrified of a decision. It feels necessary, given how he’s treated Wade in the past. Like Peter was better than him because he had a morally superior code of ethics. The mask was like a wall that Wade hadn’t earned the right to see behind yet.
But that was all pretending. Making himself feel better. It was never Wade’s job to break down the bricks or to prove anything to Peter; it was Peter’s to stop acting like the line between him and Wade wasn’t already paper thin.
Maybe that’s why Wade had scared him so badly in the past. Like looking into a mirror.
