Summary
He gets maybe halfway there. And then the world… malfunctions.
His vision whites out. His ears pop. A high-pitched ringing sound pierces the air. His feet hit solid ground without any of his previous momentum. The thick, heavy, undeniable smell of blood fills his nose.
One moment, Jason is soaring through the air, calm and assured and in control. The next, he’s standing in a blood-soaked alleyway, a decapitated body laying at his feet.

Jason's never been able to keep his emotions to himself. They're written all over his paling face, in the way he presses his lips together and swallows, hard.
"He did do this to you," Dick says, and he's surprised, somehow, by how emotionless he sounds. "Didn't he?"

The Jason Todd of now was not the Jason Todd who had died. No, literally. Current Jason was a clone of the dead Robin. How did he know? Well, for starters, people don't come back from the dead, Superman excluded. But also, Jason Todd wasn't angry. He didn't have claustrophobia. And he DEFINITELY didn't have a mallen streak. Current Jason Todd had all of those things and more. So clearly something was amiss. And he was gonna prove it.

“Bruce,” Dick said, staring into his eyes. They were both piercing and so very far away, as though he saw Dick but also could see something through him. Something far in the distance. “Bruce, let’s go home. Let’s go talk to Alfie. Okay?”
Bruce broke the eye contact to look down at the grave beneath their feet and Dick’s heart sank.
There was a moment of silence as Bruce rested a hand in the dirt, almost reverently. Dick felt sick.
“I can’t, chum.”
He couldn’t.

/|\Or, in which Bruce time travels to a time after Jason has died but before he’s crawled out of his grave. In his messed up state from the time travel he ends up guarding Jason’s grave obsessively to wait for his son to come back. This time he’ll protect him. He won’t fail again.
Meanwhile, his family misunderstands. And worries. Mostly they worry.
