L was nine when he became the world's greatest detective. L was ten when he found a brown-haired child covered in dirt. L was ten when he made his first friend.
AU: Light runs away from home and is found by L. This follows Light and L growing up together and then the Merikh Case (which follows the timeline of the Kira Case just with a different name). Light uses the name of Kira when he is at Wammy's House so hence the rename.

Summary

Summary
"If only we'd met a few years earlier..."
There's been news about a cursed child moving into town. The townsfolk are ruffled; Akira is unconcerned. There are far more pressing issues to fixate on—like pestering this random boy in the woods into becoming his life-long rival.
Meanwhile, Goro has only just moved into the soon-to-be newest installment of his long line of failed foster homes and he's somehow already picked up a second shadow. His pest is naïve, delusional, and a total space case. Not to mention, Goro's pretty sure he only has a single brain cell bouncing around in that souped-up skull of his.
At the very least, he's entertaining.
In which Akira and Goro do indeed meet earlier. And the consequences are permanent.
