Summary
JJ’s shoulder suddenly brushes against hers, and she glances down to see him stretched out beside her. He’s still small—skinny and wiry, all sharp elbows and bony knees that stick out awkwardly whenever he moves. He’s the smallest of the group by far, and she still towers over him by a good couple of inches.
It makes her feel annoyingly smug—stronger, bigger. For now, anyway.
“C’mon Jayje,” she says, nudging him with her shoulder. “You’ve gotta have some plan for your birthday this weekend. It's gonna be the big one-three, man.”
Kiara is absolutely determined to plan the most epic birthday for JJ. Not because she owes him anything or because she feels like it’s what friends do, but because, well, he deserves it. And maybe, just maybe, she wants to see that grin of his a little wider on his special day. But of course, the universe—or maybe just JJ’s cursed streak of bad luck—has other plans.

Summary
He stares at the cover of the packet for an undetermined amount of time before he realizes it’s just the title. He tosses a quick glance her way before he turns to the first full page of text, paralysis settling in when he sees the sheer amount of letters. Time ticks as he grips the stack of papers in his hand, noticing the wet crinkle where his thumb rests, the sweat beading on his forehead.
JJ reads. When it’s strictly necessary. A street sign, a text. Shit that’s short enough for him to absorb without having to start over every goddamn line to understand.
And he does. Reads the first two sentences over, and over–
Fighting to reel in the letters swimming on the page, to catch them and place them in order. Every time Kiara turns a page absentmindedly, he feels the temperature rise another degree staring at the first fucking paragraph.

Or, JJ tries to dip on a school project. Kiara won't let him.

Summary
In S3Ep6 we saw how Cleo found Pope at the marina and helped him not to shoot Rafe. JJ ran towards Tannyhill in search of Pope. We never saw him again until John B drives to his house.
What if Heyward found him? I HATE how hungry and alone JJ is for most of S3 after they return to OBX so who better to help than Heyward? I love Pope’s family.

Summary
John B is used to JJ showing up at his house in the middle of the night all beated up and broken. The chateau was afterall also JJ's home. John B knows Luke Maybank. He knows what he's capabol off and he also knows his bestfriend still loves his father no matter how many beatings he's gotten. Tho this time it all feels wrong. This time it came a little too close to the end. John B felt it in his stumache even before JJ left to go to his fathers house. JJ's the one who really feels it tho, when his vision goes blurry and his fathers voice is drawn out by the pounding in his head. And with out even having to think about it his subconsiousnes guides him back to his brother. Back to his home. And John B's there to pick him off the floor shattered and broken. As always.

Summary
JJ's not stupid, but after years of living with Luke Maybank as a father and never receiving the attention he deserved, it's going to take a lot to convince him otherwise. As fate would have it, living with the Heywards brings a new set of "rules" into JJ's life, including good attendance at school, respect for teachers, and earned grades.
What happens when the dam finally breaks and Pope discovers the real reason JJ's sent to the office for being a disruption and refusing to read his textbooks? How will JJ react to one of his biggest "secrets" being revealed to his pseudo-parents?
As always, plenty of platonic love ensues.

After John B and Sarah return, JJ is still struggling with the emotional weight the situation carried. He accidentally falls asleep in the Boneyard after an overwhelming afternoon, and the following morning attempts to mask a pretty "nasty cold". The Pogues catch on, but before they can confront him outside of class, JJ's illness takes a dramatic turn.
A reflection on love, friendship, and how the strongest families aren't always blood.
