Summary
Trinity Santos isn't great at keeping secrets. Dennis Whitaker has a knack for finding people at their lowest.
What happens when Whitaker finds finds his abrasive, takes-no-bullshit, mean lesbian of a roommate, hunched over a sink on the eighth floor, hands halfway through opening a scalpel?
AKA: my very self-indulgent take on the missing scene Isa & Gerran talked about in that one interview

Summary
“I haven’t really been to a wedding where I’ve, uh… let loose. But, hey,” Dennis shrugged, “maybe I’m doing it wrong.”
“If I hadn’t already agreed to go to this conference, I’d offer to go with you,” Robby said casually. “Show you how it’s done. I’ve got a good track record as a plus-one, too.” Dennis had to say something. To interrupt. To shut this down. But what was he supposed to say? No, you can’t be my plus one, because I lied about my cousin, and there is no wedding, and it seems a little weird to bring a date to a fucking funeral– “Apparently parents love it when you bring home a doctor.”
And just like that, the bubble popped.
“I’m not gay,” Dennis snapped.
He had never hated the sound of his own voice as much as he did right then.
---
Or, Dennis is anxiously headed home for a "wedding" in Broken Bow, Nebraska, the details of which are increasingly fuzzy. Robby's got a medical conference in Omaha that same weekend. So they carpool. Seventeen hours both ways in an enclosed space with no way out except a tuck and roll. This'll go great. -

Summary
"His daze ends abruptly and he’s hit by the reality of what just happened. Did he just get punched in the face by a patient? Is that really what just happened? He pressed his hand back to his face, hard, to hold pressure. Thinking about the gold, shiny wedding ring that Evans wore on his right hand.
Just his damn luck."
OR: Dennis has always been aware of the violence against healthcare workers, he just never thought it would happen to him.

Summary
"I had a dream," Robby says. "About you."
"Should I be worried?" Dennis aims for levity, lands somewhere closer to anticipation.
"You were—" Robby pauses, brow furrowing as he searches for the words. Trying to translate something felt—dreamed—into something spoken. "You were somewhere cold. Under a bridge. And I found you. But you didn't know me yet."
Dennis feels something shiver down his spine. "That doesn't sound like a dream. That sounds like a nightmare."

Summary
{a few hours sounded like a lifetime with how he was feeling. Every time he swallowed it felt like razor blades were sliding down his throat. That paired lovely with the way his head felt like it was stuffed with cotton. And, his personal favorite was the way he was sweating, his scrub top slightly clinging to his back}
Basically, Dennis is sick and (un)surprisingly he tries to keep working! despite being deathly ill! And he works himself until he collapses! :)

Summary
His throat burned as he swallowed the remnants of drool still lingering in his mouth, causing him to hunch forward and cough violently while clutching his sore neck. He winced quietly at the scratchy feeling traveling down his esophagus, now becoming more apparent with his conscious state. His head pounded like a drum, the sound of his own heart pumping blood filling his ears. Sweat dripped down the back of his neck, soaking the back of his sleep shirt and leaving a trail to the “Dennis shaped” sweat stain left on his sheets. He took a deep breath trying to rekindle himself, only to be met by a crackle in his lungs and a concerning wheeze, exploding into another violent cough.
Yup. He was definitely sick.
Or Dennis Whitaker stubbornly decides to go to work with a fever, causing a catastrophic series of events, scaring Dr. "Robby" Rabinovitch to death and sparking a deep-seated confession.

Summary
It’s nearing the end of his shift. Only two more days to the ER rotation. Dennis is beginning to see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Starts to feel the clean, crisp rays of freedom, he could almost reach out and feel them lapping at the tip of his outstretched hand.
But then, he takes a sharp turn, his foot slamming oddly against the floor. He’s on his way to see a patient, a young girl, is about to sign off and tell her mom pedes has a room for her. But he probably stepped wrong, each next step he takes marred by a dull throbbing pain that shoots up his right leg and sits in his hip.
He gets a brief spell of dizziness, followed by a shock of goosebumps racing up his arms. The overhead lights in the hallway are scorching his eyes, and when did it get so cold in here? And why was the floor spinning, and getting so close to his face?
And that was the last he remembered before everything went dark.

Summary
During a lonely night on the abandoned 8th floor, Whitaker is spiraling. He decides to make a phone call.
~
“Whitaker, it's 2 AM.”
Whitaker let out a shaky breath. “Yeah.”
“Why are you calling me?”
He didn't know how to answer that question. There was no way to answer that question without embarrassing himself.
Sorry, Dr. Robby. I’m lonely. I miss my family. I'm thinking about all of the patients I’ve lost. I know you've lost hundreds more, and I know this is just part of the job, and I should just get used to it, but my fucking soul hurts. I feel like a failure. I miss my mom. I wish she loved me more than she loves God. Is that a fucked up thing to say?
Maybe I’m not cut out for this.

Summary
Trinity Santos can be bitchy, but that doesn't mean she's a bitch. Would a bitch invite her homeless co-worker to live with her in her nice but very lonely apartment? Did she even like him as a person? Hard to tell, but he wasn't so bad she'd leave him to live in an empty hospital room, stealing soggy sandwiches and no shower in sight. No, she wasn't that bad. And maybe she herself wasn't so bad if Dennis Whitaker himself, the sad rural midwestern farm boy with love on his sleeve, trusted her, or maybe found her tolerable enough to stay with for who knows how long.
Or the night when Dennis Whitaker moved in to resident Santos, and shared some feelings and lore along with a house tour. Current population: 2
