Azula didn’t have time to register anything before something heavy was on her and she fell backwards under the crushing pressure. Ears filled with an overwhelming static, she barely heard the squidge of her body indenting in the blood of the butchered kangaroo-deer. A scaly snout was breathing warm air at her. The mouth was hanging open slightly, revealing a row of carnassial teeth, wet and shining with saliva. Azula didn’t move, too scared and too filled with wonder at this spectacular beast.

Beomgyu refuses to believe he hallucinated that warmth. That affection. The trembling in Yeonjun’s hands when he was feeling so faint he couldn’t keep his head up and his eyes open. He could smell the fear in his scent more than he could feel any of his limbs.
It wasn’t fake.
But then, if none of that was fake, how do you explain what happened? How do you explain the grin and the non-chalance about all of it?
The fact that he didn’t even have enough in himself to give Soobin — their damn leader — one last look before just vanishing?
Beomgyu wants to hate him so, so much. He wants to tear that smirk off his face bare-handed. He wants to ask why in the first place. Why betray them, why do this with them when he could’ve just fucking killed them and spared them the agony?
Beomgyu wants to scream at him. Wants to demand an answer as to why he didn’t choose them. Why he didn’t choose him.

When Yeonjun left Thursday’s Child and pursued a solo career, he had known there would be some residual tensions between him and the rest of the band, but what he hadn’t expected was to be coldly shut out and cut off for five years by Taehyun as if Yeonjun had never existed–as if Taehyun and Yeonjun hadn’t been together before it all crashed. He certainly hadn’t expected to see Taehyun years after the messiest break-up Dispatch had never gotten ahold of, and to suddenly be faced with hours of uninterrupted time together.

Beomgyu leans over the edge; forty-thousand feet above sea level, there is nothing to see beyond the plush bed of the clouds, and the expanse of the sky. Here, the world is small and he almost finds his place in it.

The gold stains swallow up the stars, one by one, and illuminates the edges of the idyllic clouds. It’s pretty–the way the sky changes into a softer version of itself, the blue tinting pink, the warmth starting to overshadow the cool tickle of the soft breeze against Beomgyu’s cheeks. A strand of his hair brushes along his nose, caught in the gentle gust. Beomgyu closes his eyes.
