He watched the office with mild interest. The new occupant was currently enjoying a lunch break with a few of the other employees. They seemed comfortable around each other, arms slung across each other’s shoulders, food being stolen off of plates. Kakashi knew two of them as the new communications employees, Izumo and Kotetsu. And then there was Anko, who was a for-hire consultant, with a rather terrifying reputation. Which left the brunet with a large scar across his nose as the new HR employee. Kakashi’s gaze lingered as he watched the man grin at something being said before he broke out into a loud laugh that floated its way across the halls.
At that moment Kakashi knew two things for certain.
One: That Iruka had the most melodious laugh that he had ever heard in his life.
And Two: That he was going to spend the rest of his life chasing that sound. -

The whole forest seemed to be holding itself back from exploding into summer. Letting spring drag on in bleak days of rain clouds and mud puddles. Even the flowers had dulled their colors.
Or maybe it was just that the undercover mission Iruka had been forced to take time off for, dragged on for what seemed like an impossible amount of time.So far the mission had been a roaring catastrophe of disasters, even by Kakashi’s standards. Between the weather and the seemingly natural animosity between Kakashi and Iruka, it had gone from bad to worse.
The objective had been simple.
Figure out why groups of missing-nin were gathering near the southern border. Don't get caught. If caught—leave no survivors.
But nothing is ever easy.

There was a reason shinobi were not allowed access to their own information. The urge to tamper with it was the biggest worry. And while Iruka definitely had the urge to tamper with some of his record (namely by destroying the images the Sandime had taken of poorly executed pranks that left him a rainbow of colors), there was one other thing that had him frozen in place. A simple box checked on the bottom of a page regarding his academy graduation.
Would you recommend for ANBU?
Or, Iruka stumbles upon his personnel file in the records room and "accidentally" takes it home.
