Coda to My Throat is an Open Grave by inkandpaperqerty. Much like an excellent ep of Supernatural, this fic stuck with me.... but there is something I wished we'd been able to experience in its world. When Dean and Cas purchase badly abused psychic Sam Winchester at a monster auction, they quickly realize he is far less monstrous than advertised. I highly recommend it; it's a well-written, touching gen story of Sam and Dean bonding before they even realize they're brothers.
In the original story, Sam has been "sterilized" prior to purchase, and he's ear-tagged like livestock before they leave with him. Given the generally healing and caring nature of both Dean and Cas in the fic, I'm assuming they would have fixed those things, but we don't get to read about it. So I wrote it.

Turns out the best way to make Dean Winchester sleep is to pin him down and cuddle the Hell out of him.
Getting him to let you? That's the tricky part.

After the events of First Blood, Dean is still wounded from having been locked away in solitary confinement. When Cas finds him passed out in the garage clinging to a bottle and his car, Cas petitions Chuck for the ability to heal the invisible wounds his friends still carry. It works - sort of. Allowed access to Dean's soul, he discovers this isn't about fixing; Dean's wounds make him who he is. But he can offer the true comfort Dean needs desperately, and help Dean forgive himself.

It all started with trying to drown a dragon in a hotel bathtub. Or rather, failing to drown a fire-breathing humanoid dragon in a hotel bathroom on Christmas Eve. When that fails, the Winchesters head up to a snowy mountain lake with a monster in the trunk. There's no such thing as a routine monster drowning, and unfortunately, they're spotted by the local game warden as they toss a humanoid form off the back of their boat with cinderblocks chained to its ankles. Even more unfortunately, the monster manages to sink their boat as its parting shot.
It's Christmas Eve as only the Winchesters can do it: cold, wet, bloody, and involving handcuffs and stitches and backwoods cabins. And brotherly love and good friends who bring pie and a good bottle of Hunter's Helper to the party.

NOW COMPLETE. When Peter was jailed for murder, he changed. Neal prods Peter about his experiences in jail and shares a trauma of his own, but Peter won't stop lashing out at him. When it can't get any worse, the two are caught in a Tsunami in the middle of the night, Neal drowns, Peter rescues and resuscitates him, and from there on out it's all about survival, reconciliation, and healing.
This is somewhat dark, when it comes to the initial relationship between Peter and Neal. My aim is to slip it in between canon to explain why Peter changed and acted so cruelly in season 5, and how they wound up so close to back to normal by the final episode. Some personal closure, if you will.
I'm not going the stereotypical "beaten and raped in prison" route. What happened to Peter and Neal was much more frighteningly close to legal treatment and not a lot of fun to read about. This isn't a terribly violent story; they almost get killed, repeatedly, but this time it's not the work of violent criminals. If you're willing to go along for the ride, I promise a happy ending.
No slash, just deep friendship. but a lot more intimacy than your average bromance. Just like White Collar itself. Standard canon pairings apply.
