They’d already hugged goodbye. She was just about to reach the door to leave when she stopped herself. “Daddy.”
“Hm?”
She turned around. “Can I please ask you about something?”
He quietly sighed, bracing himself. “Go ahead.”
“What were those shirts hanging in the wardrobe?”
He closed his eyes and exhaled, having anticipated and dreaded the question. He remained silent as he sat back down on the bed.
“I know I did something that upset you. I just wanna know why, that’s all.”
“Honey, I can’t.”
“Yes, you can. You can tell me. It’s okay.”
After preparing himself a little longer, he finally opened his eyes, but still wouldn’t meet hers. “The plaid one’s mine. The blue one…”
She walked over and sat back down in the chair next to him, not wanting to rush him.
“You were just a kid, but I had a friend named Jack."

Alison punched in Mike’s number. He picked up without a greeting.
She apprehensively began to speak. “Hello, Captain? Are you there? It’s Alison. I’m here with Anthony.”
“Hello, James,” Anthony nervously chimed in.
Nothing but silence followed. The seconds each seemed longer than the last. Please, please work, Alison thought…but nothing came.
“James?” Anthony tried again. Still nothing. Alison’s stomach dropped.
“Damn it. I’m so sorry, Anthony. I promise it worked earlier.”
He nodded sadly. “Thank you for trying.”
“No! No, I’m here!” The Captain shouted. “…I’m sorry, I didn’t know what to say. It…hearing your voice…hearing you say my name again…I never thought this would happen. Forgive me, I am beside myself.”
A pained smile spread across Anthony’s face at the sound of The Captain’s voice.

It had been three years since Jack and Rachel left.
Communication was always scarce, even at the beginning. Phone service and internet connection weren’t always reliable or present at all where they were. Eric took what he could get, but he wasn’t surprised when they got more and more infrequent. He couldn’t even remember the last time he talked to either of them.
Friends leaving was part of life, he knew that. He just didn’t know why it still hurt so badly.

“So, what about you? How’s your week been?” Eric asked, raising his coffee for another sip.
“My house burned down.”
Eric froze before the cup could reach his lips. “Are…are you good?”
“I mean, all things considered, yeah. I’ve been staying at a hotel. That plus my recent unemployment, it’s almost like a vacation.”
“...Dude. That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“Yeah, it is, isn’t it?” Jack could only chuckle at his own misfortune.
“Why didn’t you tell me until now?”“There was nothing you could have done about it.”
“Are you kidding? I mean, you can stay at the hotel if you want, but…you could stay with me instead. Until you find another place.”
“...Really?”
“Yeah. Just like the old days, right?”
Fear tugged at Jack. It had been so long. They were such different people. What if they weren't compatible anymore? What if he showed up and it was nothing like before?

Any awkwardness in the room was replaced by shock, with Captain the most taken aback of all. He didn’t know what came over him. Still, he rose to his feet and took his place front and center, turning to the sea of faces anticipating whatever he was about to say.
He cleared his throat, trying to hide how nervous he was. “Apologies, for this might not exactly qualify as poetry being that it was a letter, but it moves me, nonetheless.”
The circumstances surrounding the letter were nothing short of nightmarish, but the words never lost their impact on him. It had been long enough. It was time for them to see the light of day.
Mustering all of the courage that might have once inhabited his body, he began. For king and country.

In the distance, he could barely make out where the smoke was coming from: his mangled motorcycle a hundred feet away from him.
“Typical. I leave you alone for two weeks and this is what happens.”
House looked to his right and there he was standing: Wilson. He looked healthier than the last time House saw him. More like himself.
House closed his eyes and let out a jaded sigh. “Can I not have one near-death experience without an apparition criticizing me?”
Wilson smirked. “I can leave if you want me to.”
“No, don’t-” House blurted out before reeling in his desperation. “Don’t. I’ve missed you.”
Wilson’s smirk softened. “I’ve missed you, too.”
“No, you haven’t. You’re dead.”
“Yeah, and you’re about to be.”
House wasn’t happy to see Wilson. Happiness wasn’t his foremost emotion, at least. There were a lot of feelings moving around inside him. The last few months of Wilson’s life had been a bit unusual for them both.

“Okay, okay, fine.” Klaus let out a huff of defeat and nerves before launching into defense mode. “I have to find out if Dave survived."
