He is quite content to live out his days quietly with his books and his research, not catching anyone's attention and certainly not having any more adventures, of the heart or otherwise.
A ten-day academic conference at Erebor University might change all that.

Summary
And so came it to pass that Durin the Deathless, First of Dwarrow-kind, the Eldest of the Seven Fathers, King of Khazad-dûm, found himself unrelentingly bound to a small chunk of blue stone pocketed by one Belladonna Took on her journey home from a well accomplished adventure.
Years, and multiple adventures later, Belladonna Took – by then Belladonna Baggins – settled into Bag End, and gave birth to a child named Bilbo Baggins, to whom this stone was always meant to belong.
It is with this one small Hobbit that the ghostly Durin is to change the tides of Middle Earth, save his legacy, and rewrite this unwritten history before them.
Additionally/And/Or: In which Durin the Deathless does not accept the finality of his lineage and submits his complaints to Mahal and Yavanna.
Becoming glued to a rock and a Hobbit was not part of his request, but he was Too Vague and forgot to Read the Fine Print.
Also, Hobbits are far too endearing even to Ancient Mostly Dead Monarchs.
Finally, and most importantly, to any Dwarf asking, it isn't technically breaking any rules if the ghost beside you works as a translator for super secret Dwarvish languages.

Summary
By the governing law of the Shire, Bilbo Baggins found himself Thain and reluctant diplomat of the hobbits; which, perhaps he wouldn't have minded if the circumstance's were different. Although seeing as he should have been several times removed before he were to obtain such a title, a desolation had befallen Hobbiton and they found themselves without a home and many without their family.
Yet, with no way to return to the rolling hills of the Shire, Bilbo Baggins found himself in quite the situation indeed; arranged by lords and royalty, to honour aged treaties and debts of old: his hand to be given off to a king he's never met, for the security and safety of his people, and never in all his years would he have thought his life to come to this.

Summary
Ten years have passed since the Battle of the Five Armies. It has also been ten years since Thorin Oakenshield, King Under the Mountain, has seen his burglar, Bilbo Baggins. At least, until hobbits show up at his gates with Bilbo. They are bruised, beaten, and desperate for a safe place after their beloved Shire is invaded by orcs. But this also gives Thorin a chance to redeem himself and act on the feelings he's been hiding for years.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins is looking forward to a good meal at his own table and a nap in his own bed. Unfortunately, it seems this is not to be. Or, the tale of the return of Fidrin and Kudrin and how Bilbo met an exiled Thorin and thought him a most dubious fellow until he caught feelings, and some politics that almost aren't important at all.
It gives great credit to the tables of the Old Took to say that when Bilbo reached his home he paused only to put his bags away before trotting off to the back gate which led to his garden, not even taking a little ‘nibble.’ So his butterscotch biscuits were spared from becoming so much fertiliser when he turned into the nook where he had carefully covered his prized tomatoes to spare them from any early frost, and found a child nesting there.
“Well!” he said, “Well.” He trotted forward, intending to pinch its ears and take it to its parents, but as it happened, the child woke up at that moment, looked at him and jumped up. -

"Dwarven tents on the road to Bree?" Bilbo shook his head, "But...heavens, why? There are plenty of dwarven smiths in Bree, why camp outside?"
Hamfast shakes his head, "Not craftsmen, you see, they say they've been 'imploring the townspeople for aid', you see, for a big quest."
Bilbo taps his chin in thought, and Hamfast clicks tongue. "Now, now, don't go thinking of feeding the crows here, Master Baggins. You know you'll bring a flock of dwarves upon us."
Well, Bilbo had always loved to feed the crows, after all.

Lady Fate had so many times watched the King and his Company retrace the same steps, always following the same path, always ending in the same few ways. She snatches her chess pieces from the board, tossing it to the floor. Instead, she places a map down, nearly blank. As she sets the pieces down, black ink trickled across the page.
"My, my...finally," she laughs, low and devilish, "Something new."

Who doesn't love a good quest? Nori was always ready to face the next adventure, but apparently the Hobbit from Bag End couldn't imagine anything worse...
Suffice to say, Nori wasn't all that impressed with the "Burglar" and even less impressed with the dirty looks Dwalin kept shooting him.
But there's no going back once on the road, and this road seems to go ever on. -
