Tooru finds him at some quaint little café with a view of Shinjuku Gyoen, sitting at one of the outdoor tables. Overhead, a clear, vivid blue stretches from one infinite point to another, low chance of rain, the lightness somehow more cavernous than nighttime.
It’s always summer in his dreams.
“You couldn’t have just called, could you?”
This is what Iwaizumi Hajime says when they meet for the second time this season, all other reunions since New Year’s scattered and countable on one hand.
Care for a walk? Tooru offers, instead, with a cup of matcha in one hand and milk tea in another. He tuts before grinning all breezy. “You wouldn’t be able to see my face, then. And what a tragedy that would be.”

The frustrations of a long distance relationship really seemed to melt away the moment they locked eyes at the airport, not through a screen but in person.
The time-zone differences and grainy face-time calls felt worth it when Hajime grasped the taller in a bone-crushing embrace that left no gaps between for light to peek through, before pulling back just enough for a kiss that definitely wasn't a quick peck on the lips.
...
A new place, in a new country, on a new continent, speaking a new language, with new friends, living a new life. The only constant for Hajime was the boy he loved with every fibre of his being.
