Summary
Batman has never trusted anyone, never left his walls for anyone, always accustomed to solitude because he knows that if someone enters his world, nothing good will come of it. Even if his aloofness is perceived as displeasing by the rest of his team, he must do it for the greater good. After all, no one would believe that he is the billionaire Bruce Wayne.
Clark has a crush on Batman and his imposing figure; he's fantasized about who he is beneath the suit. Later, he develops a crush on Bruce Wayne and his blue eyes.
But after a mission, those eyes can be seen, and Superman knows who is behind that mask. That's how things change. But amidst the torment of discovering his identity, the two heroes, accustomed to distance, slowly learn that Batman can stay. And between glances that say more than any promise, Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent rebuild a closeness broken by the fear of losing.

The funeral is a week later. The church is sterile and nearly empty. Bruce sits next to Alfred in the front row. His eyes are fixed on his shoes the whole time. His eyes are dull and unfocused. The speakers, for there are so many, talk and talk and talk until he thinks about screaming for them to shut up. He doesn’t care what they have to say! Alfred always squeezes his hand when he feels that very strong thought and he knows he can’t do that to Alfred because he loved his parents too.
The last one to speak is an old priest, his dad's childhood one, he thinks. He wants to summon enough energy to look up and pay attention but the words about God’s love and kindness curdle the thoughts sour before he even manages it. God is cruel if one or more even exists.
He thinks to himself that maybe if he were to meet one what he would do. Maybe he would shout at them until his voice was gone. Maybe he would fight them. He thinks he would make them weak though. That makes the most sense to him. If he were to make a god or more mortal then, they would be subject to the misery they created or, at the least, didn’t stop.

A few cars had passed from time to time, a couple of birds had sung cheerfully outside, filling in the little spaces between their hushed conversation (little bouts of silence that would engulf the lazy air of the early morning). When the Sun had begun shining a little brighter through their blinds and the want for food had become a more craved affair than a distant thought, they had stumbled out of there sheets, as gracefully as their waking bodies would allow them, and had headed to the kitchen.
That had been thirty minutes ago.
Now, Dick had his face shoved against the cold marble of the counter, his naked torso flush against the hard surface; his sweatpants were pulled down, along with his underwear, unceremoniously bunched around his trembling feet, tiptoeing uncomfortably to adjust his height to the workstation; and his hands fumbled uselessly to find a grip on the smooth expanse of the counter, his fingers curling and uncurling without rhythm as he fought to keep himself upright and steady.
Or; Dick gets railed in the kitchen by his sweet boyfriend, Wally.
