Summary
Daniel's linen shirt is wrinkled where it stretches tight across his chest, top three buttons left open to expose to the glistening plane of his sternum. A lock of blond hair is wet where it touches his forehead, curled from the humidity and Armand aches to push it aside. To drag his fingers through the mess of it. He could drop into Daniel’s lap and do it right now.
Armand folds his arms across his chest. He tracks the way Daniel’s thumb flicks over the switch on the lighter. Once, twice, and then it sparks to life.
“You’re the one who picks these disgusting muggy places to live, not me,” Daniel mutters, smoke crawling from between his lips. “I don’t see why you like this kind of weather so much.”
Daniel and Armand settle in Miami. Spend the evening on a hotel balcony and work out how to work someone dead into a sweat.

Outside the palazzo the sky is grey, shot with pink threads that announce the coming dawn. Amadeo can see it through the crack in the drapes that surround the bed. His master’s bed. His bed, which feels like home to him at night but becomes a prison at sunrise every morning. He rubs his cheek against the pillow and tries to close his eyes. But the goldwork cherubs that adorn the velvet scrape at his skin. With the blood flowing in him like this, it’s as though he can feel every single metal wrapped thread that presses into his cheek. It makes it impossible to sleep.
In which Amadeo gets Riccardo to wear him out before bed.

“That vase is older than I am and if you throw it I will be very displeased.”
Armand was, in fact, halfway to displeased already. In the last two minutes, Daniel had thrown several abstract metal art pieces and a potted plant across the penthouse living room while calling Armand every name under the stars.
Daniel lowered the vase a little and put his free hand to his mouth in mock disbelief. “Do you hear that, guys? The boss is going to be displeased. Better start running while you still can.”
He really was being excessively childish.
Being shitty is how Daniel copes, and while Armand might not approve, he does understand. In which two old men test each other’s patience and (very slowly) learn to communicate their fears.
