He realizes, too, that what they’re for decides their future. Dimitri will lead them into a better world. Felix will guide his path, and Glenn will protect his life, and Ingrid will bind her future to theirs.
And Sylvain, who was born for the border, will stand in a watchtower. He will see the enemy before it comes, and he will keep Dimitri and Felix and Ingrid and Glenn safe.

Sylvain's jaw dropped. He began to splutter and finally blurted, "I know for a fact that Felix is a--"
"Perfectionist?" Dorothea interrupted brightly. And then, in that evil female voice that managed to mix saccharine sweetness and pity in equal measure, "Which you, Sylvain, are most definitely not. Sometimes settling for 'good enough' really isn't good enough."
