Summary
This story is written by myself and Tinker001. It is loosely based on canon and explores a possibility that could have occurred if the characters were younger and circumstances slightly different. As my co-writer reminded me, Diana Gabaldon admitted to not being good at keeping track of the ages of characters, so we’ve decided it’s not too remiss of us to adjust their ages to fit the narrative of our story.
For the sake of the story we want to tell, Claire is 49, Jamie 44 and John 36.
We have adjusted the time when Jamie returned to Scotland to shortly after Lord John’s visit to Fraser’s Ridge with young William. His reasons for visiting his homeland are therefore different.

Summary
“Congratulations, Bree! He’s precious,” Claire smiled.
“He’s bonny,” James agreed. “What’s his name?”
Bree looked at Lord John, who smiled at her reassuringly. “Jeremiah Alexander Bertram Fraser Grey.”
“What did you do?” James growled at Lord John, his fists flexing angrily.
------
After Bree proposed to Lord John, Aunt Jocasta is adamant about settling her niece safely in marriage and arranges their union without delay. This marriage of convenience provides safety for Lord John, Brianna, and her unborn child, and the story explores their relationship as friends and how their marriage changes the dynamics between Rodger, Jamie, Claire, William, and others.
------
CONTENT WARNING- Story deals with the aftermath of Brianna's in-canon rape in a non-graphic manner.

Summary
This is a rationalist and effective altruist take on the Last Herald-Mage trilogy, inspired by HPMOR, r!Animorphs: The Reckoning, and other works. From a starting point of "what if the characters were trying to be reasonable?" and "what if Leareth was a human being with real, complex motivations, rather than a cartoon villain?" I am seeing where it goes.
Meta note: this fic is accessible regardless of whether you’ve read canon. It starts out a little slow, and book 1 is kind of a different genre from book 2 onward. Additional warning that book 2 onward gets pretty dark and this doesn't really let up. There will be 11 volumes.
Major themes include the complexity of thinking about ethics, the challenge of taking on problems in the world that seem insurmountable, and trying to do good while dealing with serious mental health issues. The characters do not start out masters of rationality, but they do learn from their mistakes and grow as people, and do their best to help support each other.
