Or, rather, she gets herself bitten on the knee when out on a supply run with her dad. It's a fluke - one second, she's kicking over a rusted sheet of metal to look beneath it, the next she's got the teeth of something that had once been human buried in the soft part of the back of her knee. She manages to shoot the thing in the head, but not before both of their blood mingles and runs down her leg.
So Vander takes her home and holds her down; Silco takes the rusty chainsaw from the shed to her leg; her sister screams like an animal from where they'd locked her in a room.
